As an Associate Vice President, you’ll be responsible for managing a team providing expert analysis and recommendations for sub-advisor selection, monitoring, deselection and transition management and research and due diligence of all external fund firms and strategies used by Nationwide. You will oversee communication with the largest and most sensitive investment management and sub-advisor relationships. You’ll support external and internal relationships and collaborate with Nationwide Financial (NF) business unit leadership.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Establishes strategic direction for Manager Strategies. Leads development efforts of technical criteria for selection and monitoring of sub-advisors for IMG products and / or third-party funds included in Nationwide Financial products.
Drives strategic direction for Investment Research. Defines and demonstrates the vision for fund research and how it enables success of products offered by NF. Accountable for establishing and managing a process to evaluate externally managed fund strategies. Maintains and presents opinion on each strategy used in retirement and insurance menus.
Leads underwriting for private equity, private debt and other alternative strategies for private placement products on NF investment menus.
Partners with IMG CIO and other investment leaders to determine the strategic direction for IMG’s investment philosophy, approach and methodology.
Manages relationship with Investment Committee of the Independent Funds Board of Trustees in support of CIO.
Manages relationship with NF business line Product & Development committees. Serves as a significant leader of the IMG Investment Committee.
Serves as the top subject matter expert in conducting the analysis of mutual funds and other investment products. Recommends addition of new funds / managers. Makes expert recommendations, based on investment experience and market knowledge, for the selection of funds.
Reviews the investment performance reports, securities holdings and other information received or requested on the largest or most sensitive investment portfolios.
Leads the review of industry trends to identify and monitor top investment managers to determine their potential effectiveness within IMG.
Provides expert investment manager analysis, evaluates marketplace trends, studies competitor filings and recommends fund selection options for IMG. Oversees the integrity of the selection process and decisions and ensures that investment options are consistent with IMG strategy.
Responsible for effectively leading team of Investment Professionals to drive business results.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to Chief Investment Officer - IMG and leads team of 9 or more investment professionals.
Typical Skills and Experiences:
Education: Undergraduate degree in finance, business, economics, accounting or related field. MBA preferred.
License/Certification/Designation: CFA certification preferred.
Experience: 12 years related experience in investment management, including but not limited to, performance analysis or qualitative assessment of investment managers and sub-advisors.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Expert knowledge of investment products, investment manager research, selection and administration and distribution strategy. Expert knowledge of investment, performance measurement and style analysis. Understands the dynamics of selecting and managing fund relationships. Knowledge of all vendor software utilized by Manager Strategies team. Ability to build relationships both internally and externally. Expert interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to lead and develop a team of analysts.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and HR Business Partner.
