How Will Your Role Impact First Command?
The Director, Business Development (DBD), serves as the field facing subject matter expert for First Command District Advisors and Advisors when engaging with pre-retirement / retirement clients. This role supports Advisors at all levels of experience and expertise and serves as a primary point of contact in servicing the financial planning needs of these clients. This individual must establish themselves as a highly valued, knowledgeable and professional business partner by coaching and growing advisor engagement, capabilities, and productivity in servicing these clients through comprehensive financial planning.
What Will You Be Doing?
- Coach and support Advisors in identifying and engaging with clients and prospects in pre-retirement / retirement phase.
- Assist Advisors in gathering and interpreting client information for the development of a financial plan.
- Articulate and demonstrate the value proposition of collaborating with Advanced Planning. Showcase the expertise and support available to advisors and how partnering with the team can increase advisor capabilities and business outcomes.
- Use professional financial planning software to model various strategies and make initial recommendations to Advisors, including complex strategies for high-net-worth clients to help maximize long-term tax efficiency, and supporting Advisors in presenting those initial recommendations to clients / prospects.
- Using existing, approved documents and software applications, assist Advisors with understanding charts, graphs, tables, and other visual aids used in client meetings or presentations.
- Assist Advisors to develop product recommendations as it relates to the financial plan.
- Guide and assist in the ongoing professional development, training and coaching of field advisors to include financial planning acumen, products, and concepts.
- Educate advisors and clients on planning strategies and solutions in individual or group settings.
- Keep abreast of financial planning industry trends and maintain knowledge of advanced planning concepts, product solutions, military / FEM benefits and legislative changes.
- Meet performance goals for role, track activity metrics, and foster a positive culture of collaboration and partnership.
What Skills & Qualifications Do You Need?
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline required (MBA preferred).
Work Experience
- 10 + years in Financial Services industry
Certifications
- CFP® required
- Retirement Income Certified Professional (RICP®) required (obtain within 12 months)
- Series 7, Series (63 / 65) OR Series 66, Life / Variable annuities licenses required
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Prefer candidates with client facing sales / business development experience.
- Extensive financial planning experience including, but not limited to: IRA and Qualified Retirement Plan features, benefits, distribution options and taxation rules; tax efficient distribution and retirement income planning strategies; comprehensive knowledge of financial products including managed accounts and the use of insurance based products in retirement planning; basic and advanced concepts in business planning and estate planning; extensive knowledge of planning software.
- Knowledge of military / federal employee benefits (preferred)
- Exceptional people skills and emotional intelligence required. Ability to build rapport, instill confidence, earn and maintain trust, and model servant leadership are crucial for success in this role.
- Expert presentation skills including, but not limited to, polished and professional presence, articulate and organized delivery, collaborative demeanor and ability to inspire audience to action – both in-person and via virtual channels.
- Expert ability to articulate complex financial concepts to clients and advisors, adapting to varying levels of experience.
- Self-motivated, results oriented, highly professional, and able to accomplish duties and meet goals with minimal supervision.
- Ability to travel within assigned territory and to company events (25-35% required)
- Be present and engaged at corporate training and recognition events as required.
