Position Summary
The Director of Network Engineering is a strategic and technical leader responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of an organization’s networking infrastructure. This role ensures the performance, reliability, and scalability of networks to support business objectives and future growth. The ideal candidate will have a blend of technical expertise, managerial acumen, and strategic vision to lead a team of engineers and align networking initiatives with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership:
Develop and execute the strategic roadmap for the organization’s networking infrastructure, ensuring alignment with business goals and technological advancements.
Stay ahead of industry trends to integrate emerging technologies and optimize network performance.
Network Design and Architecture:
Oversee the design and implementation of robust, secure, and scalable network solutions, including LAN, WAN, SD-WAN, and cloud networking.
Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
Operational Excellence:
Direct the operation, monitoring, and maintenance of network systems to achieve high availability and reliability.
Lead incident response and resolution processes to minimize downtime and service interruptions.
Team Leadership:
Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of network engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
Allocate resources effectively to support ongoing projects and operational priorities.
Collaboration and Communication:
Partner with cross-functional teams, including IT, cybersecurity, and business units, to ensure seamless connectivity and secure data transmission.
Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and executives.
Budget and Vendor Management:
Manage the network engineering budget, ensuring cost-effective solutions and investments.
Oversee vendor relationships of networking equipment and services.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Network Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
12+ years of experience in network engineering, Minimum of 8+ years in a leadership role
10+ years of experience in network engineering, with at least 5+ years in a leadership or management role.
Expertise in designing and managing enterprise-level networks, including cloud and hybrid environments.
Experience in networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF), security (e.g., firewalls, VPNs, NAC), and technologies (e.g., SD-WAN, wireless, VoIP).
Experience managing large-scale, global networks with a focus on performance, availability, and scalability.
Experience in networking technologies, protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF, MPLS), traffic engineering, and load balancing.
Hands-on experience with cloud networking, and SDN (Software Defined Networking).
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in large-scale cloud or web-scale companies.
Familiarity with AI-driven networking technologies and the impact of AI workloads on network performance.
Knowledge of data center operations and hardware systems.
Strong project management skills, with the ability to drive complex projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a proven track record of leading high-performing teams.
Experience with vendor management, contract negotiations, and managing relationships with global suppliers.
Strong understanding of network automation, scripting (e.g., Python), and tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform).
Proven track record in managing budgets, resources, and vendor relationships.
Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.

The pay range for this role is $203,000 to $333,000. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location. This may be different in other locations due to differences in the cost of labor.
