Who Does the Optical Communications Engineer work with?
Connect Engineering is a diverse collection of professionals who have a variety of organizational roles ranging from RF, Optics, HFC Engineers, Network Engineers and Architects, Data Scientists and Software engineering teams whose software integrates with analytics services in developing the fundamental protocols, to some of the leading broadband experts who have pioneered the current and future of broadband access technology.

Bring your knowledge, motivation and eagerness to learn to support the Connect optics development activities in a very fast-paced environment. Main activities include different aspects of product development cycle including product requirement definition, development, component testing, system integration/testing, product trials and deployment. The candidate is accountable for supporting optical technology developments in the transport, metro Ethernet, and access networks. Knowledge in optics, pluggable optics, optics integration, optical test equipment, splicing and managing fiber, monitoring tools, IP & Ethernet, analytics is highly desired but can be learned on the job.
Responsibilities
Manage lab activities including planning development tests, acquiring test equipment, consumables materials, running tests, writing test reports and forming conclusions, working with the optics team and strategic partners to evaluate, troubleshoot, and further improve or develop new products.
Developing and documenting the processes and procedures to evaluate optical components, modules, and systems.
Set-up of evaluation platforms, switches, routers, etc. leveraging knowledge in networking (IP and Ethernet)
Work with different parts of the organization to plan, develop, and support multiple concurrent projects from conception through development, demonstrations and trials, to general availability across Comcast.
Strong initiative to build relationships with diverse stakeholders both internally and externally with minimal supervision/direction from management.
Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance. Open minded and responsive to technical, execution, and culture feedback.
Regular, consistent punctual attendance in the Philadelphia Comcast Technology Center. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.

Skills & Requirements:
Bachelor degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience
5+ years working in optical components and/or optics telecommunications systems
Expertise in SFP, QSFP, CFP2, PON, FTTX, Ethernet optical transceivers to 100 Gbps
Optical passives, splitters, couplers, isolators, filters (DWDM, CWDM)
Well versed in Broadband, RF and optical lab and field test and measurement equipment and techniques
Optical measurements including wavelength, spectrum analysis, OSNR and OTDR
Experience with ethernet communication systems, protocols, switches, routers.
Modern software development skills including Python or Go and familiarity with continuous integration and test case automation
