Our Lynnwood, WA facility is expanding its production capability and is seeking a Quality Design Engineer to join our manufacturing engineering team.
We are searching for an on-site, hands-on candidate with a passion for ensuring quality is designed into products and not inspected for afterwards. As a member of the lean manufacturing engineering team, you will engage with multidisciplinary design engineers during the development, production, and support of complex electro-mechanical products containing embedded software. You possess a relentless appetite for setting in motion and steadily optimizing a broad and complete set of lean manufacturing methodologies to mature specific production readiness criteria beyond the expectations of a typical world-class organization.
Primary Responsibilities
- Ability to productively engage with a cross-functional, multidisciplinary team in the assessment and improvement of the producibility and manufacturability apects of complex electro-mechanical products with embedded software.
- Background in single piece, continuous flow, pull-based manufacturing methodologies that focus on the elimination of waste to achieve rapid manufacturing cycle times.
- Knowledge and practical experience with Design for Assembly (DFA), Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and Design for Test (DFT), and other Design for Excellence (DFX) principles and practices.
- Extraordinary writing and graphical creation skills, particularly related to the initial creation and continuous improvement of work instructions and test procedures, including the standard operating procedures employed.
- Ability to engage with design engineers to specify and establish quality criteria for recurring inspection and test of supplied components, assemblies and subsystems, with a particular emphasis on quality at the source.
- Experience performing Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) during product development to proactively ensure error-proofing techniques are established and continuously monitored for effectiveness.
- Competency establishing statistical process control (SPC) methods for key characteristics and critical characteristics to ensure key manufacturing processes and critical manufacturing processes are under variation control and result in high yield.
- Expertise leading the Root Cause Analysis (RCA) of incoming inspection nonconformances and in-process inspection or test failures using best industry practices and resolving issues rapidly and effectively.
- Engaging in total productive maintenance (TPM) processes to ensure all tools and equipment in the production process are ready to perform in the spirit of overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Leading the verification and validation of special inspection equipment (SIE) and special test equipment (STE) using formal Measurement System Verification (MSV) and Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) techniques.
- Ensuring that factory Manufacturing Surveillance is effectively employed through a timely data collection and reporting process to identify factors which may adversely impact product quality, delivery, performance, or cost.
Basic Qualifications
- Knowledge of and practical application of risk-based thinking as defined in ISO 9001
- Passion for the history and evolution of producibility and manufacturability methodologies
- Theoretical understanding both lean and agile values and principles
- 4-8 years related experience
- Bachelor’s degree in technical or operations discipline
- Ability to obtain a SECRET security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in the defense or TPS-type automotive industry
- Knowledge of TRL and MRL maturity levels and threads
- Past participation in a Lean Transformation initiative
- Mastery of all the primary responsibilities defined
- Existing SECRET security clearance

Pay Range:
Pay Range $72,150.00 - $130,425.00
