To support this rapid growth, AWS is looking for a self-motivated and experienced public relations professional to join its U.S. Public Sector Communications team. The purpose of this role is to drive awareness around the positive work AWS does supporting government, academic, health, nonprofit, and aerospace customers. The right candidate possesses strong media relations and PR experience, is an expert at translating complex technology concepts into concise and well-written narratives, has experience supporting public sector customers, and has a demonstrated ability in working on cross-functional teams.
The ideal candidate enjoys diving deep into technology, understanding how it is shaping and redefining the world we live in and engaging business, inside-the-beltway, and technology media. They are motivated by a dynamic, highly creative culture where the challenge of breaking new ground and redefining best practices is welcome. In this role, the candidate will have the ability to work alongside a variety of internal teams and also support AWS customers. The candidate must have excellent writing skills, have experience driving proactive campaigns and have a track record of utilizing good judgement in high pressure situations.
This role will be based in Arlington, VA and may require periodic travel.

- Work closely with customers to help them tell their stories about success with AWS and how cloud technology is helping them innovate more and increase mission success
- Provide communications counsel to business leaders
- Work alongside colleagues around the world to share best practices and execute global campaigns
- Work cross-functionally to plan and execute PR campaigns
- Develop communications plans to support the development and execution of events and media engagements
- Experience in professional communications or public relations
- Exposure to AI/ML a plus
- Understanding of government procurement and acquisition
- An entrepreneurial spirit, including ability to work independently and autonomously
- Strong strategic thinking, analytical, and organizational skills, while also staying on top of tactical execution
- Outstanding attention to detail, understanding of technology, and ability to communicate complex topics effectively
- Experience working with and understanding public policy issues
- Passionate about excellence in writing and verbal communications
- Thrives in a collaborative environment and is willing to roll up their sleeves to get the job done
- Strong judgement, a knack for diplomacy, and the confidence to engage and build consensus with functional leaders at all levels
- Experience managing media relationships and working with think tanks and technology associations
- Experience working with the media at large industry conferences and excellent planning skills
