Description
The Health and Civil Sector at Leidos seeks to hire a Director of Data Science to support the Health and Civil Sector Capability Integration team. This individual will report to the Chief Data Officer to lead AI and data science efforts. They are expected to work directly with Federal clients, the Growth team responsible for business development, leadership, and technical staff to understand business needs, develop technical plans, and guide the design of prototypes that address current and anticipated client needs. The ideal candidate exhibits curiosity and is motivated to co-create.
Primary Responsibilities
The Director of Data Science will be responsible for the following:
- Guide the design and development of proofs-of-concept and prototypes to support client projects and internal research.
- Partner with the Growth team to support the development of business strategies and the shaping of technical solutions and industry relationships.
- Support the definition, prioritization, and execution of Independent Research and Development (IRAD) efforts based on current and anticipated customer needs.
- Present research concepts and results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Provide leadership in maintaining and executing an AI strategy that supports the sector's strategic initiatives.
- Maintain awareness of the latest advancements in AI, machine learning, and data science and apply findings to inform new ventures or to enhance existing projects.
- Support knowledge sharing across the sector.
- Conduct research on state-of-the-art algorithms and techniques in AI and machine learning.
Basic Qualifications
- Typically requires BS degree and 12 – 15 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 10 – 13 years of prior relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience identifying and developing technical solutions across a broad range of AI and data science technologies and disciplines.
- Proficiency in a broad range of AI and data science techniques and applications areas.
- Demonstrated experience with all aspects of project management: initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closeout.
- Ability to translate technical innovations into business value.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Creativity and innovation – desire to learn and apply new tools and techniques.
- Ability to obtain/maintain a Public Trust Security Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate in a relevant field.
- Adaptability to new challenges with a strong motivation to grow and learn in new areas.
- Enthusiastic about continuous learning and intellectual growth; staying up to date with emerging AI and data science tools, technologies, and methodologies.
- Ability to grow a team and mentor.
- Prior consulting experience.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $126,100.00 - $227,950.00
