KBR is seeking a Real-Time (RT) Spacecraft Engineer for the Magnetospheric Multiscale (MMS) mission as a member of the Mission Operations Team (MOT).
The MMS RT Spacecraft Engineer is responsible for commanding the four MMS spacecraft while monitoring their health and safety. The engineer identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves anomalies and discrepancies as they arise. The engineer is also part of a team that maintains the MMS Mission Operations Center (MOC) subsystems, products, and tools supporting the MMS mission. The engineer would perform and direct teammates in the performance of spacecraft operations and complex ground-based engineering assignments.
Tasks and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Apply knowledge of the operational aspects of the MMS mission and the MMS spacecraft subsystems to execute routine spacecraft operations activities when due. Maintain proficiency with the MMS Mission Operations Center (MOC) subsystems, data flows, and interfaces used to operate the MMS satellites. Leverage proficiency in MOC subsystem, data flow, or interface to be the primary point of contact for interfacing with affected parties and troubleshooting issues that may arise. Utilize proficiency in scripting languages including the spacecraft Systems Test and Operations Language (STOL) to enhance automating and controlling ground system and spacecraft. Interpret, execute, and author written operating instructions. Execute routine spacecraft operational tasks diligently while developing/improving automated processes where practical. Lead upgrading, testing, and operating efforts for MMS MOC subsystems. Identify and document various spacecraft/ground system anomalies and discrepancies and responding with pre-authorized actions. Investigate complex anomalies/discrepancies as assigned by the MOT Technical Lead; this may include working with external interfacing organizations, MOT co-workers, NASA engineers, and the customer to determine corrective action and long-term solutions. Perform routine trending and engineering analysis for one or more assigned ground and spacecraft subsystems. Support occasional spacecraft activities outside of core business hours. Support shifts of being on-call to monitor and respond to spacecraft and ground system alerts.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
BS degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or another technical field.Proficient with Linux (or Unix) and Windows computer operating systems.Proficient in one or more scripting languages (eg. STOL, Perl, Python, Bash, Shell).Experience with testing, troubleshooting, and verifying complex systems.
Preferred Experience:
Previous spacecraft flight operations or related experience. Understanding of the MMS mission and its operations. Proficiency with MMS MOC core operational software packages: ASIST/FEDS, DADS, TaaS, MPS, Glance. Demonstrated ability to learn complex systems with minimal supervision, provided appropriate documentation. Demonstrated leadership of small teams to accomplish tasks. Demonstrated experience training co-workers. Demonstrated ability to interchange technical information with customer or external organizations.
Basic Compensation
$77,200.00 - $115,800.00
The offered rate will be based on contract affordability and the selected candidate’s working location, knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience, and in consideration of internal parity.
Additional Compensation
KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short term incentives, long term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
