SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the project engineering required for the production of high quality HVAC product modifications and customized products. This position is responsible for scheduling, coordinating, controlling, and directing activities of engineering resources with the goal of operational excellence and support of business strategies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other functions may be assigned.
- Develops and leads a high-performing team of project professionals including project engineers, engineering co-op students and project administrators.
- Responsible to build required capacity to engineer high quality projects on-time and on-budget.
- Regularly coordinates overall master schedule with the technical sales and production leaders.
- Creates and communicates up-to-date schedules that provide effective direction for engineers.
- Ensures that parts are ordered according to project schedules and coordinates achievable engineering schedules with production
- Provides complete design documentation including travelers, BOMs, schematics, and drawings that enables production to efficiently build high quality products.
- Communicates and coordinates directly with production personnel to clarify design questions, resolve gaps, and troubleshoot problems.
- Implements design quality standards for engineering processes in coordination with the standards team.
- Provides Sales Support Team capacity to assist in project development work, coordinating with standards team engineers as appropriate.
- Schedules testing and final check-out resources in coordination with production leaders.
- Schedules start-up resources (engineers) when required in coordination with project managers.
- Schedules warranty service work as needed in coordination with the other leaders.
- Responsible for customer communication including final project documentation and entry into model number lookup.
- Maintains customer satisfaction by investigating concerns, routing them to the assigned staff, and responding to special requests.
- Responsible for generating, interpreting, and printing various assigned reports.
- Responsible for achieving mission objectives regarding profit and resource goals.
- Monitor, measure, and modify process and process measurements to effectively and efficiently meet customer needs.
- Develops team members; coaches to establish required skill sets, talents, and capabilities.
- Implements world class safety practices and designs in coordination with the district safety team.
- Develops and implements appropriate HR policies in sync with corporate HR policies and in coordination with district and corporate HR personnel.
- Communicates effectively with other leaders and team members concerning problems, obstacles, issues, and information needs.
- Facilitates and assists with general office and shop work as needed.
- Leads, attends, and/or participates in team meetings and technical training classes as scheduled.
- Submits accurate, timely reports as required.
- Flexibility to occasionally work outside normal work hours/weekends when needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This person may coach subordinates in engineering and product management processes. This person is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the processes of this unit. This person carries out management/leadership responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Engineering; and eight (8) years of job shop experience and HVAC experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experienced and knowledgeable in management processes associated with engineering and production of custom machines in a job shop environment. Knowledgeable of Project management processes, scheduling processes, skilled trades, and HVAC equipment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and CAD software required. Experience with project scheduling systems required. Familiarity with the operation of energy management systems, HVAC systems, temperature controls, and process control systems required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write and/or create effective memos, reports, presentations, and documents. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of algebra. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
