Job Summary:
In this position you will be leading a team of controls technicians. Primary job responsibilities include coaching, mentoring and developing other members of your team. This candidate will also be a lead controls technician installing (commissioning), troubleshooting, repairing, and programming Building Automation control systems. This candidate will partner with the ACM to provide leadership for controls technician team members. In order to perform your task you will utilize your knowledge of electronics (board level troubleshooting), direct digital controls, airflow, hydronics, refrigeration theory, and building control techniques.
Responsibilities:
- Establish & maintain a positive relationship with customers, vendors and co-workers through effective oral and written communication skills via phone, computer, and face to face
- Directly supervises and responsible for the coaching, mentoring and developing of other controls service and contracting technicians
- Manages performance by monitoring controls technicians effectiveness and efficiency in relation to customer service and associate objectives
- Organizes and schedules all assigned Control Technicians. Identifies and prioritizes projects and plans jobs in detail
- Responsible for understanding HVAC systems and BAS controls
- Responsible for coordinating with engineering on process improvement. You are the voice of the field. Lend support to engineering as needed
- Responsible for team standard work for programming, end to end testing, downloading programming, starting up, commissioning, and servicing on assigned projects
- Conducts year-end performance evaluations and yearly development plans for direct reports
- Maintains quality standards by supervising and inspecting job sites
- Responsible for internal and external customer training events and team technical meetings
- Coordinates with project managers and customer to precisely understand requirements for all on-site installation and repairs by extensively examining building layouts, forecasting issues, gathering materials and synchronizing on-site work
- Assist estimating and engineering in final project design
- Keeps current on Trane products concerning installation, operation, maintenance, service, and repair of direct digital control systems
- Establish standards for graphics, commissioning, programming for standard work
- Attends and distributes information from monthly technical update
- Continually enforces safety to the highest standards and maintains security and accountability of company issued and procured assets by recording use, wear and conditions
- Displays team effort and dedication to customer by maintaining flexibility to work overtime and weeks as the business requires, including occasional overnight stays
- Maintains quality standards by supervising and inspecting job sites
- Maintains customer satisfaction by investigating concerns, implementing corrective action, and communicating with customers and staff as needed
- Support tech team in accomplishing this as required
- Supporting job fulfillment planning with goal being tech consistency per job
- Digital and IS Adoption to assist and supporting IS Offering with the objective to increase productivity and Customer Satisfaction deliverable
Qualifications:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent and 3-7 years of experience in HVAC/Controls; or equivalent combination of education (Technical School) and experience is required.
- Operating knowledge of Microsoft office software and working proficiency with hand held computer (i.e. Smartphone, iPad).
- Valid Driver’s License with no major traffic violations, suspensions, or DUI’s in previous 5 years.
- EPA Certification Preferred (e.g. HVAC Journeyman, Boiler Operator, Gas Installer etc.).
This position requires working in diverse conditions including but not limited to mechanical equipment rooms with exposure to noisy operating equipment, exposure to extreme weather conditions, precarious places, and risk of electrical shock (high voltage).
This position is highly physical and requires regular use of hands, fingers, walking, stooping, and kneeling. It requires employees to regularly lift and or move up to 10 lbs, frequently lift and or move up to 50 lbs and occasionally lift and or move more than 50 lbs.
