The Advanced Engineer, Modeling & Simulation employs thermosciences in the analysis and evaluation of systems that produce a refrigerating, heat pumping, air-conditioning, or heating function. This role designs, develops and maintains models for HVAC&R and Energy systems as well as improves and standardizes application of tools and applications across different business units, providing sound guidance to end-users and sharing best practices globally. The successful candidate will work in a team environment to coordinate the design, development, of Next generation System Modeling solutions and also supports major design/product teams with modeling & analysis tool usage for faster, first-time-right innovation and greater productivity. The position requires analytical skills and experience with Modelica thermal systems modeling and Optimization tools and methods.
Core Job Responsibilities (others may be added):

Development and implementation of state of the art physics based system models to enable performance predictions.

Develops, validates and maintains models and predictive engines and soft wares for HVAC&R and systems.

Works closely with global team members, cross-functional associates and internal customers in dynamic environment, to understand the implications of modeling results and drive system level optimization and answer critical design questions through modeling results.

Collaborates with internal customers to address design and control algorithm challenges through modeling and simulation.

Understand and apply HVAC&R engineering fundamentals including equipment related heat transfer and thermodynamics to create complex simulation models.

Evaluation of new and innovative technologies as they appear for potential commercial value, either as disruptive competition or prospective new products or services for the company.

Improves and standardizes application of tools and models across business units, providing sound guidance and training to end-users and sharing best practices.

Documents work per established internal standards and suggest improvements to procedures.

Evaluates and understands external industry M&S methods, results, capabilities, and limitations in support of thermal systems applications to improve or enhance M&S capabilities.

Develop a clear understanding of customer requirements and meet or exceed those expectations.

Conceptualize & develop project ideas leading to new advanced capability development in related domain areas to keep TT to the leading edge of technology.

Network across the organization to identify and communicate opportunities to apply Advanced system modeling and simulation to product design and processes.

Promote the use of modeling and simulation within the organization via value benefit analysis and similar demonstrations.

Provide mentorship and guidance to team members in system modeling and simulation.

Participate in long term technology roadmap development discussions, and help build new external partnerships for Trane Technologies.

Identify internal and external collaborative opportunities in areas of system modeling, machine learning, others

Leads internal strategic projects and reports project progress for quality, deliverables and cost.

Overnight Travel - approximately 10%.
Minimum Qualifications:
Key Competencies:
-
Strong understanding of the principles of fundamental thermodynamics and vapor compression cycle and component performance characteristics.

Strong foundation in heat & Mass transfer and fluid mechanics.
-
Experience with HVAC component modeling, energy management systems, HVAC equipment and controls.

Experience with Modelica required.

Demonstrated experience building and validating and thermal system or energy models for different applications
-
Experience driving design and controls changes through model based optimization
-
Must have proven ability to perform and communicate effectively in a team environment.

Ability to formulate a problem, efficiently execute an analysis, and clearly summarize conclusions and recommendations.

Ability to write good technical reports and interact and communicate with others in a collegial manner.

Experience in advanced Model based systems engineering enabling tools and practices like Tool coupling, Architecture driven simulations will be added advantage
