Job Summary
The Sterile Processing Technician plays a crucial role in the healthcare environment, ensuring that all surgical instruments and medical equipment are properly cleaned, sterilized, and maintained. The technician will work closely with surgical teams and other healthcare professionals to support optimal patient care.
Duties
- Clean, disinfect, and sterilize surgical instruments and medical equipment according to established protocols.
- Inspect instruments for functionality and cleanliness before use in procedures.
- Maintain accurate inventory of sterile supplies and equipment, ensuring adequate stock levels.
- Utilize aseptic techniques to prevent contamination during processing.
- Document sterilization processes and maintain records in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Collaborate with surgical staff to understand instrument needs for upcoming procedures.
- Adhere to safety protocols and infection control measures at all times.
Experience
Candidates should possess a strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology to effectively perform their duties. Experience or knowledge in sterile processing techniques is highly desirable. Familiarity with inventory management systems will be beneficial for maintaining stock levels efficiently. A background in aseptic technique will enhance the technician's ability to prevent contamination during instrument handling.
