The Disaster Recovery Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the organization's disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity plans to ensure the resilience and recoverability of critical IT systems. This role involves conducting risk assessments, testing recovery procedures, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to minimize downtime and data loss in the event of a disruption. Estimated salary range for this position is $92480.02 - $120224.03 / year depending on experience.
Degrees:
- Bachelors in Comp Science, Comp Engineering, Electrical Engineering or comparable industry exp.
Disaster Recovery Planning & Implementation:
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive disaster recovery plans (DRPs) for all critical IT systems and infrastructure.
- Identify potential risks and vulnerabilities within the IT environment and propose appropriate mitigation strategies.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define recovery objectives, including Recovery Time Objectives (RTO) and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO).
- Ensure DR plans align with business continuity requirements and regulatory compliance standards.
Testing & Validation:
- Conduct regular disaster recovery tests and tabletop exercises to validate the effectiveness of recovery procedures.
- Document test results, identify gaps, and implement corrective actions to improve recovery strategies.
- Maintain detailed documentation of test plans, outcomes, and any lessons learned for continuous improvement.
Incident Response & Coordination:
- Serve as a key point of contact during disaster recovery activations, coordinating response efforts across IT and business units.
- Work closely with infrastructure, applications, and cybersecurity teams to ensure seamless execution of recovery processes.
- Provide technical expertise in restoring critical systems and minimizing business disruptions during incidents.
Documentation & Compliance:
- Develop and maintain up-to-date disaster recovery documentation, including policies, procedures, and system recovery guides.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards such as ISO 22301, NIST, and regulatory requirements applicable to the organization.
- Assist in internal and external audits by providing necessary DR documentation and evidence of testing activities.
Technology & Process Improvement:
- Evaluate and recommend disaster recovery solutions, including cloud-based DR, replication technologies, and automation tools.
- Stay updated on emerging trends and technologies in disaster recovery and business continuity.
- Collaborate with IT teams to integrate resilience measures into new and existing infrastructure and applications.
Other skills:
- Hands-on, proven expertise with developing tech solutions involving multiple apps to solve business/production needs.
- Required knowledge/understanding of technical architecture, application systems design & integration in a large enterprise environment.
