About the Role
The CNC Machining Lead at the Center for Manufacturing Advancement (CMA) is responsible for overseeing CNC machining operations, fixture design, and related manufacturing activities. This position serves as a shift lead and subject matter expert, providing technical guidance and hands-on support for machining projects.

 

Shift Details
This position is assigned to second shift and may be required to work overtime, weekends, holidays, or alternate shifts as needed to meet business demands. Second shift hours are Monday - Thursday - 2:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:
•    CNC Operations: Program, set up, and operate CNC equipment, including multi-axis milling machines, dual-spindle lathes, wire EDM, tool pre-setters, and vertical band saws.
•    Technical Leadership: Serve as shift lead and subject matter expert, providing guidance on shop floor equipment and processes.
•    Fixture & Tooling Design: Design and build fixturing to support CNC operations and metrology.
•    Quality Control: Conduct pre-, in-, and post-process inspections using 3D scanners, precision hand tools, and gauges.
•    Post-Processing Oversight: Provide guidance on post-processing activities to ensure quality and efficiency.
•    Compliance & Documentation: Ensure adherence to ITAR, ISO, ANSI, and other regulatory standards, and assist in documenting procedures and technical processes.
•    Process & Scheduling Input: Provide machine capacity, process insights, and time estimates to support quoting and scheduling.
•    CAD/CAM Expertise: Perform advanced CAD/CAM tasks using Autodesk Fusion 360, MasterCAM, and/or Siemens NX.
•    Collaboration & Project Execution: Work closely with CMA staff, external stakeholders, and technology partners to complete machining projects on time.
•    Workplace Safety: Maintain a safe, organized, and compliant work environment.
•    Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as needed.

 

Work Location
We are looking for staff to work onsite in Danville, VA.    

The Ideal Candidate

•    Education: Associate degree or diploma in Precision Machining Technology (required).
•    Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience in complex CNC setup and operations (required); experience in an ITAR-regulated environment (preferred).
•    Technical Skills: Advanced expertise in precision machining, including multi-axis machining, dual-spindle lathes, and mill/turn operations; CAD/CAM proficiency required.
•    Software Proficiency: Skilled in Microsoft Office.
•    Soft Skills: Strong oral and written communication, customer service mindset, and excellent interpersonal skills.
•    Work Ethic: Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of multi-tasking and troubleshooting in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

 

Salary & Benefits
