KBR is seeking a Technical Advisor – Systems Engineering that will also act as Team Lead to join the KBR team in support of a Science and Engineering Technical Support contract for the United States Space Force (USSF). This is a full-time position requiring availability for on-site access to Los Angeles Space Force Base and the Aerospace campus in El Segundo CA. The current duty location is 2-3 days on-site with more on-site days expected in the future.
The Space Systems Command (SSC) Space Systems Integration Office (SSIO) Science & Engineering Technical Support team is looking for an energetic and innovative technical advisor to support the SSC/BZE Chief Engineer an BZE Technical Director to focus on developing government reference and technical baseline architectures aligned with future US Space Force (USSF) force design and enabling enterprise level interoperability and integration.
The candidate shall provide systems engineering, MBSE, and road mapping support to shape the future of the USSF SSIO enterprise architecture as well as be the overall Task Lead for the small team supporting BZE. The candidate shall work side by side with SSC personnel in the performance of engineering tasks applying critical thinking concerning solutions to current threat environments for National Security Space (NSS) customers. Experience with Digital Engineering, specifically MBSE, is required to support USSF objective of being the first “digital force.” Experience in cross-cutting architectures is desired to meet the goal of SSC/SSIO cross-enterprise architecting and analysis efforts, providing high quality decision support products to the SSC and USSF senior decision makers for the space acquisition enterprise.

Responsibilities:
- Provide Systems of Systems (SoS) Engineering Management functionality guided by the SSC Chief Engineer or equivalent – this is task lead position
- Conduct SoS engineering management “analysis” and provide the “control” of SSC engineering processes to ensure disciplined processes are in place and pedigreed and highly credible products are being generated within SSC
- Using MBSE, perform cross-cutting mission area architecture development through the identification of potential synergies and efficiencies across multiple mission areas based on existing roadmaps and System Program Directorate developed to-be architectures
- Using MBSE, develop candidate functional, logical architectures that resolve common functions into common/enterprise solutions and reduce the cost associated with acquiring and maintaining multiple systems to achieve the same function and promote the use of common standards
- Support defining strategic-level strategy, developing associated architectures, and executing analysis processes to enable risk-informed investment decisions across the NSS enterprise to enable continued application of joint warfighter and National Command Authority effects in, through, and from space
- Apply DOD architecture, style guide, and Digital Engineering (DE) policies, principles, and instructions and support development of portfolio level DE guidance within SSC to facilitate alignment and synchronization of separately developed and managed DE baselines
- Analyze space enterprise requirements and alignment to the functional/ logical/ data architecture and standards.
- Evaluate and characterize the known trade-space and ensure requirements mapping of newly developed enterprise-level cross-cutting mission area architectures
- Manage team tasks in an agile environment, using tools such as Jira and Confluence to capture, measure, and report on activities aligned to SSIO priorities
- Prepare briefings, reports, trip reports, or papers as appropriate to lead stakeholder discussions, document meetings, or document evaluation findings and recommendations
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
- Seven (7) years MBSE experience (e.g. working with Sparx EA and/or Cameo models)
- Twelve (12) years total experience in space systems and national security, with a focus in systems engineering and MBSE
- Extensive experience in systems engineering, systems of systems engineering, family of systems engineering, architectures, or road mapping for NSS systems
- Experience in agile project management using tools such as Jira/Confluence
- Demonstrated ability to lead and participate in requirements and interface development as part of the systems engineering, architecting, and integration process
- Effective interpersonal and team-building skills, to engage at both the engineer and management levels to build confidence and collaboration
- Clear and concise written and verbal communications
- US Citizenship and an active DoD TOP SECRET with SCI eligibility Security Clearance are required for the position
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (EE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), or equivalent Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics
- Ten (10) years MBSE experience, including advanced applications of MBSE / DE capabilities with knowledge and formation of all SysML diagram types employing Cameo and/or Sparx EA
- Familiarity with MS Project
- Ability to plan and implement a multi-year level of effort for MBSE / DE support to high visibility customers
- Experience working directly as an interface with military and other government representatives, Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) (e.g. Aerospace) representatives, and SSC’s prime contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors
- DOD program office experience with understanding of DOD acquisition process and compliance with government instructions
- Experience with technical mentorship
- Object Management Group Certified Systems Modeling Professional (OCSMP) Level 1/2
Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40
Basic Compensation: $175,000-$190,000
The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.
Additional Compensation:
