Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, MI three times per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business].
The Role
The Total Certification Engineer position develops, executes, and monitors Certification plans in support of GM product programs. Acquire the Emission, Range and Fuel Economy approvals from the Regulatory Agencies so GM can build and sell products. Exercises direction over other engineers or engineering support people. This position has significant interactions with and interdependence on other groups, including but not limited to: Propulsion System Embedded Controls; Hardware PMTs; Performance Energy Engineering; Vehicle Engineering and Legal Staff. This position involves contact with multiple personnel at both the US EPA and at CARB to communicate program status and resolve compliance issues. The position also requires exercising independent judgement with minimal input from manager.
What You’ll Do

Single Point contact for emission compliance issues to product groups

Develop and Execute Emission/Range Compliance Strategy

Certification Plan Documentation and Status

Lead/Attend monthly compliance team meetings to support execution of compliance certification plans (Cert integration, PAPIR, etc.)

Identify deviations from plan and work with affected parties to develop recovery plans and to manage risk

Support Chief Engineer (CE), Assistant CE’s, Lead Development Engineers, and Product engineering Manager in readiness reviews with respect to Certification / Compliance

Manage vehicle build requirements/orders/vehicle updates and Test execution plan for Certification / Compliance

Execute certification compliance test plan for assigned Test groups and Fuel Economy/Range Labels

Create and maintain GM Corporate official Certification documents and records, including vehicle maintenance logs and engineering reports, as necessary

Responsible for collecting and tracking AECD information and assembling documentation to be submitted to compliance agencies

Create and Submit “Application for Certification” to US EPA and CARB.

Maintain GM Corporate Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) policy and properly manage official documentation of emission compliance activities
