The Up-river maintenance area consist of 3 Steam Methane Reformers (SMR), CO Loading Unit, pipeline compressor station, and 3 Hydrogen off gas facilities. Sites are in Geismar, Baton Rouge, and Plaquemine. These sites provide Hydrogen and Carbon Monoxide via pipeline to refineries and chemical plants across Louisiana and Texas. The maintenance team does support the area. A background in performing preventive and corrective maintenance on machinery, pumps, reciprocating compressors, and mechanical equipment is critical for this position.
The basic function of this role is the responsibility for performing preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical equipment such as: centrifugal & reciprocating compressors, process pumps, gear drives, fans, vessels, and heat exchangers, all involving a variety of fluids and gasses in the Up-river maintenance area.
The Maintenance Mechanical Technician / Millwright will be responsible for maintaining / solving all equipment and facility maintenance. You will provide vital technical and hands on support to continuously improve plant rotating and stationary equipment integrity, reliability, cost, and on-stream performance.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Participate actively in department/plant safety programs. Promote safety rules and regulations as well as environmental compliance.
- Perform and/or supervise routine and breakdown inspection, repair, troubleshooting, modification, installation and commissioning of mechanical equipment such as centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, cryogenic pumps, gear drives, steam turbines, vessels, heat exchangers, centrifugal expanders
- Develop work scopes for equipment repair and overhaul.
- Prepare and provide technical reports. Enter information into CMMS system (SAP) to provide accurate documentation on equipment and information.
- Provide the vital technical leadership to continuously improve machinery condition and reliability.
- Develop worn component refurbishment procedures and follow through on repairs and spare parts replacements based on Machinery Engineering recommendations.
- Update and/or create maintenance manual/procedures for certain equipment as needed
- Engage actively in a team environment, bring a positive attitude, maintain personal accountability, and provide mentoring and coaching for team member development.
- Participate in the planning and execution of minor and major shutdowns. Provide technical and hands on support as required during shutdowns
- Expectation to become an Air Products crane lift supervisor, to include rigging and flagging qualifications
- Drive company vehicles safely
Qualifications:
- Ability to perform alignments (Rotalign Pro or equivalent)
- Ability to read drawings
- Knowledge of various pumps and compressors
- Knowledge of equipment lubrication practices & procedures.
- SAP or equivalent experience CMMS system a plus
- Demonstrate the practice of safe handling of hand tools and hand power tools typically and commonly used in maintenance tasks
- Practice and demonstrate working knowledge of safe rigging and lifting procedures
- Understand the properties, behaviors, and hazards of the equipment
- Experience in maintenance, start-up, and commissioning of industrial rotating machinery and plant equipment
- Experience in a petrochemical, manufacturing or military environment
- Working knowledge of basic word processing, email, and spreadsheet programs a plus.
- Practical knowledge of machinery overhauls and refurbishment
- Good organizational skills, the ability to work alone if necessary, and the ability to lead a crew.
- Supervisory skills/experience a plus
- Proven safe work skills, fundamental computer skills and the ability to work extended hours
- Willing to take 24 hours on call responsibilities on a rotating basis
- Most be able to learn how to operate facility forklifts, manlift and shop overhead crane.
- This is a safety sensitive position.
Physical Requirements:
- Climbing ladders and steps in extreme work, get on scaffolding, get on manlift type equipment and wear PPE such as full body harness
- Wear supplied air and air purifying respiratory protection
- Able to lift 50 lbs.
