The Advanced Technology Laboratories (ATL) is an applied research and development center within Lockheed Martin. Position Overview: Are you an engineering generalist with a passion for mechanical and thermal engineering design? At ATL, you will work on a variety of projects that challenge your skills and offer opportunities for growth and learning. Your role will involve working on small, focused development teams to convert scientific principles into real-world applications, helping to shape the future of Defense technology.
We are seeking a Research Engineer Intern for our Eagan, MN facility with an ability to obtain a security clearance. As an engineer at ATL, your day-to-day responsibilities vary based on the needs of our programs. We pride ourselves in the flexibility we give to our engineers to pursue research that is of interest to them and give opportunities for engineers to grow and learn about what others in the lab are doing. Based on our current needs, your skills and the skills you wish to acquire, you could be tasked with any of the following:
This assignment involves pursuit and execution of leading-edge research and development programs related to modeling, simulation, design, and testing related to overall mechanical design. The role expects a candidate to use Computer Aided Design (CAD) software and be able to perform basic thermal and structural analysis for a wide range of applications. Candidates will engage in small, focused development teams in order to create real world solutions by converting scientific first principles into innovative designs for applied technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop packaging and thermal solutions for military applications
Perform lab testing and integration of high performance ruggedized photonic/fiber optic systems
Perform modeling and simulation to validate concepts and guide designs
Support research projects to innovate and provide new/novel solutions for novel problems.
Participate in large-scale field tests where our systems are tested on the ground, at sea, and in the air on commercial or Military assets
Assist in the acquisition of new business by formulating modern day solutions to customer
problems
Basic Qualifications:- Beginning or intermediate proficiency with mechanical engineering fundamental principles
- Pursuing a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Experience using computer aided design (CAD) tools
- Good team working and collaboration skills.
- Ability to obtain a security clearance to at least the Secret level.
Desired Skills:- Hands-on lab experience with electronics, photonics, and or high frequency RF devices.
- Proficiency with modeling and simulation tools such as CREO, ANSYS, or similar.
- Experience with source code/model management tools such as Git or similar.
- Experience with modeling tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, or Labview.
- Ability to use / read programming languages such as Python or C/C++.
Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Washington or Washington DC is $29,598 - $64,168. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
