Position Summary:
This role provides high level support to internal controls, compliance and financial planning functions. Provides support to key operational areas of manufacturing and distribution. Provides financial direction in particular areas of inventory, distribution, cost accounting, and financial systems. Performs complex duties requiring advanced professional experience, knowledge and competency in product costing and cost reporting that go beyond the traditional accounting functions. Manages and maintains the cost accounting reporting systems. Responsible for all cost of goods sold and inventory reporting issues. Acts as a consultant to teams, leaders and other member of the Finance Team.
Essential Job Functions Include:
- Prepares key operational reports with analysis of key metrics. Present findings and make recommendations to Senior Leadership to meet key metrics.
- Responsible for maintaining the ERP product costing system and related business intelligence tools.
- Responsible for coordinating the allocation of labor, overhead, and material costs to raw, work in process and finished goods.
- Assists with the cost of goods sold budget preparation, review, analysis and implementation.
- Responsible for timely and accurate period-end closing, variance analysis and operational reporting.
- Assists in or provides leadership as needed in cost estimating projects for new products including volume based, variable margin costing analysis.
- Leads the annual physical inventory audit. Prepare schedules as needed for the annual financial audit.
- Responsible for product standard and routing updates, inventory valuations, re-costing and reserves.
- Calculate, analyze, account for, and report monthly cost variances for direct materials, direct labor, indirect labor and manufacturing overhead.
- Responsible for updating product costing policy and procedures to professional standards.
- Oversees the management and variance analysis of the cycle counting program.
- Coordinate review of work orders and follow-up on major variances.
- Maintain accuracy of G/L account reconciliations for inventory and other accounts, as assigned.
- Accountable for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance in assigned area. Responsible for design and operating effectiveness of internal controls, including a self-assessment and report to management.
- Ensure that the cost implications of the Engineering Change Notice (ECN) process are reviewed for accuracy/reasonableness and in line with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Set directives and initiatives for key members of the company to ensure inventory accuracy goals are met and the proper inventory levels are maintained (includes obsolete/overstock, cycle counts, forecasting, etc.).
- Provide support for Controller functions when necessary.
- Exercise considerable discretion and independent judgement and handles confidential information.
- Responsible for participating in continuous improvement activities for improved operations of the Finance Team and Manufacturing Teams. Be a key player in helping the manufacturing teams increase inventory turns, improve gross margin and improve inventory accuracy.
- Problem-solves individually or as a part of a group as duties require. May lead such problem-solving activities.
- Accountable for developing and monitoring processes and practices necessary for legal and ethical compliance in assigned area.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field.
- One or more year’s cost accounting experience in a fast-paced professional manufacturing organization.
- Successfully demonstrated experience in Cost Accountant function with a $100-$500 million manufacturing company.
- Experience with a fully integrated financial reporting system is essential.
- Experience making process improvements utilizing current technology.
Required Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong accounting background with expertise in GAAP financial reporting. Strong Microsoft Office and Internet skills. Access/VBA/SQL database reporting skills preferred. Working knowledge of Word and advanced Excel skills are required.
- Strong oral and written communication skills commensurate with the job tasks and position necessary to communicate clearly and effectively with internal and external customers while providing exceptional quality of work and outstanding customer service. Ability to present information in a manner designed to educate or inform other team members and customers in one-on-one or group interactions as directed.
- Ability to create, review, comprehend, interpret, process and evaluate effectively documents written at the highest levels in English, in conjunction with the performance of the essential functions and other assigned job duties. Must have mathematical skills equivalent to those required under education and/or experience.
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills including ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced work environment while maintaining a calm, rational and respectful demeanor and communication style in times of stress occasioned by work demands, tight timelines, high expectations, unexpected financial issues, and other work-related issues or concerns that may cause a heightened level of anxiety, frustration, anger, disappointment, confusion, etc.
