Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s North American Security & Emergency Management Department is seeking a passionate and highly motivated Technology Manager to join its team.

This position is critical in enhancing the safety and security of Toyota personnel and assets through the development and management of technology-driven projects. The ideal candidate will take a strategic approach to cultivating a diverse portfolio of initiatives that address the ever-evolving challenges in corporate security and emergency management.

The primary responsibility of this role is to lead and manage technology-based projects that enhance the safety and security of Toyota’s personnel and assets. This includes overseeing a comprehensive portfolio of projects that span across all areas of physical security and emergency management. The role requires maintaining close collaboration with operational security teams to address the challenges they face in safeguarding personnel, facilities, and assets. Additionally, the Technology Manager will be responsible for developing and maintaining a multi-year roadmap that prioritizes technology initiatives related to physical security and emergency management while ensuring clear communication of progress and updates to stakeholders at all organizational levels.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of North American Security & Emergency Management, the Physical Security and Emergency Management Technology Manager will lead a team comprising both Toyota members and external consultants. The position requires the ability to manage multiple initiatives, drive innovation, and deliver measurable improvements in the security landscape of Toyota’s North American operations.

What you’ll be doing

  • Oversee and manage project and operational budgets, ensuring flexibility to allocate resources between new security system designs, ongoing break/fix support, and vendor management needs.
  • Ensure both new projects and daily operations comply with internal processes, procedures, and regulatory controls, including managing vendor performance and system integrations.
  • Apply and maintain best practices for both complex security design projects and ongoing system operations, ensuring standardized, consistent success while allowing flexibility as needed.
  • Act as the point of escalation for both project and operational issues, including system failures and vendor-related challenges, driving timely resolution and keeping stakeholders informed of progress.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to validate technical designs, ensure smooth operation knowledge transfer, and ensure that both project teams and operational support teams are aligned for long-term success.
  • Provide regular updates on both ongoing projects (security systems and designs) and operational performance (break/fix and vendor management) to executive leadership, ensuring transparency and alignment.
  • Manage and prioritize intake channels for both new project requests and ongoing operational support needs, ensuring that both are accounted for and appropriately resourced.
  • Oversee the strategy, selection, and performance of vendors supporting both new security systems and ongoing operations, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance standards.
  • Oversee the daily management and performance of security systems, including break/fix activities, ensuring smooth operation and prompt resolution of issues to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Lead complex security system design projects, ensuring they meet specifications, are delivered on time and within budget, and align with Toyota’s broader security strategy across new and existing locations.

Qualification Section

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field (e.g., security management, technology, project management, information systems, or business).
  • Proven expertise in managing both security technology projects and daily operational support, including system maintenance, troubleshooting, and vendor management. Strong experience with security systems, such as access control, video surveillance, alarm systems, and emergency management technologies.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including technical operations and external vendors, to drive project success and resolve operational challenges related to security technology and systems.
  • Experience in managing vendor relationships, ensuring compliance with service level agreements (SLAs), performance monitoring, and alignment with organizational goals in the context of security technology solutions.
  • Ability to adapt quickly in dynamic environments, balancing both strategic security technology initiatives and the management of daily operational needs to ensure security system uptime and effectiveness.
  • Ability to travel 20%, domestically.

Added bonus if you have

  • System experience in Lenel Access Control, Genetec, Milestone Video Management, AlertEnterprise, or other commercial security systems.
  • Experience in benchmarking security technologies, applying industry best practices, and maintaining strong connections with industry members and professional networks to stay current with emerging trends and technologies.
  • Project knowledge involving the design and installation of physical security technology, with leadership experience in directing multiple vendors and internal support groups for complex security installations and ongoing maintenance.
  • Understanding of Toyota Way and other Toyota practices such as ringi, hoshin, and nemawashi, and how these methodologies can be applied in security and emergency management projects.
  • Strong demonstrated process and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize, manage budgets, and ensure the successful and timely delivery of both short-term and long-term initiatives related to security technologies.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively present updates, reports, and recommendations to executive leadership, particularly regarding security system projects and operations.
