The Boeing Company is seeking Certification Engineers (Levels 5 or 6) for the Boeing Global Services (BGS) Regulatory Administration & Airworthiness (RA&A) team in the Safety, Security & Airworthiness (SS&A) Organization in Long Beach, California.

Seeking qualified applicants to fill the position of Certification Engineer (Certification Specialist) for the BGS Regulatory Administration & Airworthiness (RA&A) team in the Safety, Security & Airworthiness (SS&A) Organization. This position would support BGS Modification and Freighter/Conversion Programs for all Boeing/McDonnell Douglas out-of-production and in-production models and Military Commercial Derivative Aircraft (MCDA). Seeking individuals with experience in FAA Part 25 certification and certification projects under an Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) or validation, and/or type design change classification. Responsibilities will include, but is not limited to, addressing Certification Plans, Compliance Deliverables, Airworthiness Directives (ADs), Alternative Methods of Compliance (AMOCs), and other certification processes.

Understanding of the Boeing ODA Procedures Manual and affected processes and procedures is strongly desired. Experience working with the FAA, particularly with the former Boeing Aviation Safety Oversight Office (BASOO) is preferred. This position will interface with ODA Unit members such as Project Administrators and Engineering Unit Members. Responsibilities will also include participation in preliminary design activities to develop certification strategies and to provide counsel on pertinent regulatory requirements and make suggestions to enhance the certifiability of the new products to minimize future certification risks.

Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify a lifecycle balanced system of systems and system solutions. Evaluates customer and /operational needs to define and coordinate system performance requirements, integrate technical parameters and assure compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces. Performs various analyses to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture. Performs analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory, certification, product assurance and other specialties quality factors into a preferred configuration to ensure mission success. Develops the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes. Resolves cross-functional technical issues.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Identifies, analyzes, and assesses regulatory and contractual compliance of aerospace systems, products and services.
  • Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to define, validate, and integrate airworthiness and regulatory compliance requirements; incorporates into designs, operations, and procedures.
  • Reviews regulatory and customer requirements and evaluates impact to company products and services.
  • Analyzes regulatory and certification technical data to ensure completeness and alignment to applicable regulatory and contractual requirements.
  • Provides a compliance statement for the airworthiness of aerospace systems and products.
  • Researches, investigates and monitors compliance processes or reported in-service fleet issues for achieving regulatory compliance and recommends process improvements or corrective action.
  • Engages with regulators on certification strategies, approaches, activities, and artifacts.
  • Partners with regulatory authorities to complete validation of airworthiness to applicable requirements as authorized.
  • Provides technical support, training, tools and resources to delegated approval organization.
  • Develops, reviews, and maintains compliance reports and documents in accordance with applicable requirements and regulations.
  • Establishes and promotes global regulatory advocacy strategies, trainings, tools, and methods. 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • 10 or more years of engineering experience
  • Experience in FAA certification or airworthiness

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience as the prime contact on projects that require coordination between organizations
  • Experience with Boeing Organization Designation Authorization (ODA) Procedures Manual and affected processes and procedures
  • Experience working with the FAA, particularly the Boeing Aviation Safety Oversight Office (BASOO)
  • Experience with Part 25 certification (FAA Airworthiness Standards: Transport Category Airplanes)
  • Excellent cross-functional teaming, collaborative problem solving, building lasting relationships & proficiency in written and verbal communication
  • Design experience
  • Certification experience
  • Systems Architecture experience
  • Project Management experience

Pay Range Summary:

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Senior Level (5): $157,250 - $212,750

Principal Level (6): $186,150 - $251,850
