Title:
Satellite Systems Engineer
KBR is hiring skilled and motivated candidates to join our space and satellite operations team at Kirtland AFB supporting Concept Exploration, Mission Readiness activities and Satellite Operations for unique, one-of-a-kind satellite systems at Kirtland AFB, NM in support of the Space Systems Command Innovation and Prototyping Delta.
An active TS/SCI clearance is required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Be responsible for leading and/or participating in space mission pre-launch, launch, and on-orbit operations activities, to include mission exercises and rehearsals, in the capacity of mission lead, evaluation engineer, or senior operator as assigned.
- Obtain certification as a space mission operations engineer on multiple experimental satellite missions.
- Support system readiness, planning, preparation, execution and ops crew evaluation for satellite launch and early orbit operations, on-orbit operations, and end-of-life retirement/disposal.
- Provide recommendations and advice to program leadership regarding satellite faults, ground system failures, or operator errors.
- Lead engineering reviews and participate in engineering boards and configuration boards, both internally and with the government customer.
- Create engineering test plans and products, as well as assist in development and review of operational procedures developed by program mission lead personnel.
- Directly interface with program management, cross-functional program stakeholders, suppliers, customers, team members and government representatives and manage effective communications among them, to include providing engineering project or mission status as required.
- Develop long-term strategic roadmap for operational engineering and test objectives.
- Promote corporate culture and foster an environment of collaboration, innovation, and professional development within the team.
- Identify and develop opportunities for technical or process improvement.
- Develop relationships with the customer and team members.
- Travel on occasion as required (minimal).
- Position may occasionally require shift work or support during off-shift hours.
Qualifications:
Required:
- An active TS/SCI is required to be considered for this position, which is something only a U.S. citizen can obtain.
- Bachelor’s Degree (engineering, management or related discipline preferred) or equivalent experience in a systems engineering capacity.
- 7 years of directly-related experience in space operations, space engineering, or ground systems engineering (can be waived with related experience outside of direct space operations).
- Requires problem-solving skills and ability to follow procedures, checklists, and contingency plans.
- Graphical user interface and scripting experience highly desired
- C++, Perl experience desired
- Master’s degree in engineering or technical field desired
- Extensive background in identifying and addressing challenges to include innovations that result in positive organizational impact.

- Travel Requirements: Minimal 0-20%
- Working Hours: Panama schedule
