Job Summary:
Are you ready to take your career to the next level with KBR? As a Research Scientist you will conduct modeling, simulation, and experimental research on nano-patterned phase change materials, with an emphasis on germanium antimony telluride, as well as other non-volatile phase change materials. You will be expected to develop detailed models and simulations for the systems under investigation, together with experimental validation and demonstration of the considered devices. The goal of this project is to incorporate such materials into photonic structures in order to create dynamically reconfigurable devices such as filter, beamsplitters, mirrors, and photonic integrated circuits. Key Responsibilities:
- Device Design: Develop and manufacture nano-patterned phase change material device architectures.
- Modeling & Simulations: Optimize device design through FDTD modeling and simulations
- Experimental Device Validation: Characterize device's optoelectronic properties through tabletop experiments.
Work Environment:
- Location: On-site with opportunities for remote work.
- Travel requirements: 10% minimal travel.
- Working Hours: Standard 40 hours per week.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Master’s Degree, or higher, in Physics, Optics, or a related field of study.
- Experimental Physics Experience: Minimum 4 years of experience in phase change materials
- Experimental Technique Experience: Prior knowledge and experience in nano-scale lithography, spectroscopic ellipsometry, Fourier transform spectroscopy, and atomic field microscopy.
- Communication Skills: Ability to work across disciplines in a team environment, with excellent oral and written communication skills.
Desired qualifications:
- Design and Fabrication: Experience with incorporating phase change materials into designs.
- Software Knowledge: Proficiency with Ansys Lumerical, Python, Matlab, and ZEMAX.
- Research experience: Prior publications in peer reviewed journals in phase change materials and/or devices.
