The Role
This strategic position leads the technical architecture and implementation of Socotra-based solutions within a microservices ecosystem for P&C insurance carriers. The Tech Lead serves as the primary technical authority, combining deep expertise in Socotra's platform capabilities with modern microservices architecture principles. This role drives technical excellence while bridging the gap between business requirements and technical implementation, ensuring scalable and maintainable solutions that leverage Socotra's configurability alongside custom microservices development. Candidates applying for this role must be able to demonstrate actual engagement experience in most or all the job functions described below.
This role includes:
- Socotra Implementation and Integration: Design and oversee technical architecture for Socotra implementations, focusing on integration patterns and microservices design. Guide teams in effectively utilizing Socotra's API ecosystem, including policy, rating, and document generation services.
- Technical Leadership: Lead technical design sessions and code reviews, ensuring adherence to best practices in both Socotra configuration and microservices development. Provide technical mentorship to team members on Socotra's architecture and microservices best practices.
Job Functions:
- Design and oversee technical architecture for Socotra and other policy system implementations, focusing on integration patterns and microservices design
- Lead the development of microservices that extend Socotra's core capabilities, ensuring alignment with client-specific requirements
- Guide teams in utilizing API ecosystems effectively, including policy, rating, and document generation services
- Architect solutions that optimize Socotra's configuration capabilities while identifying areas requiring custom development
- Design resilient, scalable microservices architectures that complement Socotra's core functionality
- Lead technical design sessions and code reviews, ensuring adherence to best practices in both Socotra configuration and microservices development
- Define API contracts and integration patterns between policy/billing/claims and surrounding ecosystems
- Establish development standards, including CI/CD pipelines, testing strategies, and deployment procedures
- Provide technical mentorship to team members on Socotra's architecture and microservices best practices
- Work with client technical teams to align on architecture decisions and technology choices
- Lead proof-of-concept initiatives to validate technical approaches and Socotra capabilities
- Oversee the implementation of security patterns and compliance requirements across the solution
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues spanning Socotra and custom microservices
- Create and maintain technical documentation for both Socotra configurations and custom development
- Drive performance optimization across the integrated solution
Compensation and Benefits
Our firm offers competitive base compensation, benefits package, and a discretionary employee bonus program for eligible employees based on individual and firm performance metrics per the defined program guidelines. For individuals hired to work in New York, the expected salary range for this role is $146,400 to $254,500; the actual salary offer can vary based upon employee qualifications.

We offer paid time off, beginning at 160 hours annually and provides twelve paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Compensation: In addition to competitive base compensation, our firm offers annual discretionary bonuses based on firm and individual performance and other forms of discretionary compensation that would be offered to the hired applicant in addition to their established salary range scale.
The Requirements
Required Technical Skills:
- 8+ years of software development experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience with Socotra platform and its API ecosystem
- Strong expertise in microservices architecture and design patterns
- Proficiency in modern programming languages (Java, Python, Node.js)
- Deep understanding of RESTful APIs and API security patterns
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP)
- Knowledge of containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)
- Expertise in CI/CD practices and tools
- Understanding of event-driven architecture patterns
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools
Required Insurance Domain Knowledge:
- 5+ years of P&C insurance industry experience
- Understanding of insurance business processes and workflows
- Knowledge of insurance integration patterns (ACORD standards)
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements affecting system design
- Familiarity with Socotra, Guidewire or EIS policy administration systems and its components
