What does a successful Linux Engineer do at Fiserv?
In this role, you will join an operational support team and will be responsible for supporting and maintaining our Linux platforms. You will use your expertise with automation to patch Linux/AIX systems along with being involved in compliance/audit efforts, troubleshooting, and remediation of the environment.
What you will do:
- Create scripts, programs, and web-based applications for system administration automation of general tasks and reports.
- Patch management of Redhat/Oracle Enterprise Linux using satellite server, spacewalk, Ansible, or Tanium.
- Research, track, and resolve vulnerability remediation efforts for linux platforms.
- Work with platform hardening frameworks such as CIS and be able to discuss top hardening concerns at a detailed level.
- Follow the ITIL process framework around Incident, Change, and Problem Management.
- Use best practices in documenting and maintaining inventory, knowledgebase materials, and detailed procedures for all audit compliance requirements (patching, PKI, NTP, logging, user access, lifecycle review).
- Recommend Redhat/Oracle Enterprise Linux best practice configurations for Server OS.
- Participate in an on-call rotation where you will execute and/or validate changes during standardized daily and weekend maintenance windows.
What you will need to have:
- 4+ years of experience administrating various Linux platforms with a focus on Redhat Enterprise Linux 7-9, Oracle Enterprise Linux, CentOS, and SUSE Linux.
- 4+ years of experience using ansible and various Linux scripting languages (bash, perl, python) to create automation solutions to better manage all platforms.
- 2+ years of experience with virtualization and cloud technologies such as VMWare and Azure.
- 1+ years of experience with network security and server hardening concepts
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, or a relevant field, or an equivalent combination of education, work, and/or military experience.
What would be great to have (optional):
- A knack for troubleshooting tough problems, determining root cause, and automating solutions.
- Ability to handle high stress situations by considering all risks while performing the task efficiently.
- Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
