Test Automation Engineer (Python Focus)

About the Team:
The End to End vCMTS (Virtual CMTS) Test Team performs a variety of critical functions in the process of releasing component software to the Comcast production environments providing cable services to millions of customers. The team works closely with development during system integration testing of innovative features and devices. They conduct manual testing on new features to map out regression and automated test requirements which are then implemented and run daily / weekly. There are multiple vCMTS environments, including hundreds of devices, managed and used by the team. While testing new capabilities, one of the top priorities is the reproduction of production issues and root cause analysis. The team works in a collaborative manner within a very dynamic environment with opportunities to take on the challenges that interest you.
About the Role:
- Responsible for design, implementation and maintenance of hardware systems and configuration in the vCMTS End-to-End testing lab. Supports the engineering and QA teams in operations in the lab. Assists teams with reproduction of production issues. Implements automation to support lab operations. Has in-depth experience, knowledge and skills in own discipline. Usually determines own work priorities. Acts as resource for colleagues with less experience.
What You’ll Do:
- Work with vCMTS teams to understand product and project requirements to design and implement capabilities in the vCMTS E2E lab.
- Monitor, maintain and enhance the vCMTS support HFC, DAA, and PON components.
- Assist vCMTS E2E QA and Dev teams with lab implementations and operations.
- Create high quality software using agile methodologies such as test-driven development.
- Develop, test, and validate solutions.
- Write simple SQL queries for validation of databases.
- Leverage SOAP/RESTful API to create high-level automation for low-level tasks.
- Learn new things as well as coach and mentor others.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable and efficient automated test frameworks and scripts, primarily utilizing Python.
- Develop comprehensive test suites that validate product quality, generating detailed reports, metrics, and trend analysis to inform decision-making.
- Contribute to the architecture of the test codebase, strategically selecting appropriate tools and technologies to optimize effectiveness and maintainability.
- Collaborate closely with software engineers and Quality Assurance engineers to seamlessly integrate automated tests into the software development lifecycle, fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
- Actively participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, providing valuable input and expertise to ensure testability and overall quality.
- Assume ownership of the end-to-end automation process, encompassing planning, scheduling, execution, and comprehensive reporting of test activities.
- Debug complex, multi-dependent automation scripts and conduct thorough regular peer reviews of the automation codebase to ensure quality and adherence to best practices.
- Contribute to the creation of high-quality software by actively utilizing agile methodologies, such as test-driven development, to ensure robust and reliable product delivery.
Skills & Experience We’re Looking For:
- Python programming background,
- Comfortable working with the Unix shell and command-line tools.
- Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to exercise sound judgment while working independently.
- Experience working in an Agile development environment.

Core Responsibilities
- Write and edit automated test code, using the same standards as a Software Engineer, that allows for repeatable, reliable testing solutions to test the wide functionality of products and software in accordance with specifications and technical requirements, maintaining automation codebase in a version control system (GIT, SVN).
- Execute automated test scripts and evaluate results.
- Analyze broken test cases and diagnose and repair to working order.
- Assist in identifying viable test strategies in order to support testing product functionality.
- Create automated testing documentation, including Test Plans, Test Summary Reports etc.
- Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
- Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
