What does a successful Network Observability Engineer (ExtraHop) do at Fiserv?
We're seeking a Network Observability Engineer to help us gain deep insights into the performance, availability, and behavior of our network infrastructure. In this role, you'll be responsible for building and maintaining observability solutions that provide end-to-end visibility across hybrid cloud and on-prem environments. Your work will help improve incident response, optimize network performance, and ensure the reliability of critical business systems.
What you will do:
- Design, implement, and manage observability solutions for complex network environments using tools like Grafana, Prometheus, ELK, Splunk, OpenTelemetry, Extrahop and Selector.AI
- Develop dashboards, alerts, and data pipelines that provide actionable visibility into network performance, latency, packet loss, and throughput
- Collaborate with infrastructure and DevOps teams to identify key telemetry sources (e.g., SNMP, NetFlow, sFlow, syslog, packet captures)
- Define SLOs, SLIs, and KPIs to monitor network health and performance
- Implement automated detection and diagnostics for anomalies and incidents using AIOps or rule-based systems
- Drive root cause analysis for network-related issues and contribute to blameless postmortems
- Integrate observability tools with incident management and ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow, MoogSoft or Selector.AI)
- Champion a culture of observability, automation and performance engineering within the organization
What you will need to have:
- 5+ years of experience in network engineering
- 5+ year of experience with network protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, HTTP, etc.) and monitoring standards (SNMP, NetFlow, ICMP)
- 3+ years of experience with observability tools (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus, Splunk, Broadcom NetOps (Spectrum/CAPM), Extrahop, Wireshark)
- 3+ years of experience in scripting or programming (Python, Bash, Go, etc.)
- 1+ years of experience in cloud networking (AWS/GCP/Azure) and hybrid environments
What would be great to have:
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible)
- Exposure to SD-WAN, network virtualization, or container networking (Kubernetes, CNI plugins)
- Understanding of security and compliance monitoring (e.g., PCI, HIPAA)
- Certifications like CCNA/CCNP, PCNSE, or AWS Certified Advanced Networking
