Job SummaryAs head of Safety, this role is responsible for the establishment of a Safety Culture and works closely with corporate leadership to ensure the company follows sound practices related to process safety, worker health and safety as well as environmental safety. Develops and leads strategic Safety initiatives for entire organization. Ensures compliance with all regulatory bodies. Oversees a staff of professionals who are responsible for program development, incident investigations, process / operations audits, and government compliance & reporting.

• Proactive strategy development for a functional discipline / strategic development of long-term policy
• Accountable for and leads the development, implementation and success of functional or departmental strategic initiatives

• Autonomy to act and make decisions within financial guidelines and / or company policy
Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following:• Develops, directs implementation and measures success of programs, policies, procedures, audits and systems designed to mitigate risk and aid in the prevention of incidents/accidents ensuring consistency of efforts and best practices.• Provide leadership strategy, direction and consultation Company-wide relating to all safety programs; mitigating risk and aiding in the prevention of incidents to support company growth and profitability.• Provide direction and guidance to all Safety Directors and Managers in the execution of corporate policies and practices and development of site-specific safety and risk management programs• Partners with field operations and corporate-based support functions in evaluating current and future business safety processes and initiatives. Ensure effective safety management practices and continuous process improvements are incorporated in all such efforts• Oversee incident/accident reporting for all aviation operations and corporate activities consistent with FAA SMS guidance. Develop and oversee IEP, FOQA, ASAP/MSAP and other safety audit processes and procedures• Oversee incident / accident reporting for all aviation operations and corporate activities.• Provide safety education, practices, and discipline Company-wide• Liaison with the FAA, NTSB, industry organizations and organizations• Monitor, report on and re-evaluate activities that may have an impact on safetyAdditional Job Requirements• Regular scheduled attendance• Indicate the percentage of time spent traveling: 20%Subject to applicable laws and Air Method’s policies, regular attendance is an essential function of the position. All employees must follow Air Methods’ employment practices and policies.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesDirectly supervises employees in the Safety department. Carries out Supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, selecting, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.QualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. In accordance with applicable laws, Air Methods will provide reasonable accommodations that do not create an undue burden so disabled employees may perform the essential functions of the position.Education & Experience• Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) and ten to fifteen years related experience and/or training in the area of safety and safety complains; Aviation Safety background is preferred. Master’s degree preferred.• A minimum of ten (10) or more years of safety experience within an aviation transportation operation or other highly regulated industry• Solid familiarity with FAA regulations, OSHA, SMS, IEP, FOQA and other federal, state and local safety compliance regulations and the Company’s Operational Manual(s)• Working knowledge of air medical services operations and maintenanceSkills• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills and a high degree of collaboration at all levels• Excellent written and verbal communication• Demonstrates sound judgment and objectivity in decision-making• Ability to maintain cooperative and harmonious relationships with internal and external customersComputer Skills• Proficient with Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OutlookCertificates, Licenses, Registrations• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or applicable certification preferredAir Methods is an EEO/AA employer. USD $195,000.00/Yr.
Maximum Pay
