What does a successful Data Communication System Programmer (z/OS) do at Fiserv?
The Data Communication System Programmer (z/OS) is responsible for the planning, design, management, configuration, implementation, of z/OS Data Communications software and related ISV data communication software tools (such as file transmission software). This position is responsible for supporting existing systems while ensuring adherence to established standards and procedures; assists Operation and Development teams in problem determination and resolution; closely works with other teams in defining and implementing technical solutions to solve business needs, and continuously seek operational and business improvements.
What you will do:
- Work with senior team members to perform problem determination and resolution, capture and transmit system dumps, closely work with vendor’s technical support, and work with other mainframe-based technical teams on production roll-out
- Work with internal customers to clarify technical requests, testing and validation, and project support needs
- Work with capacity and performance teams in proactively addressing potential performance issues impacting service levels
- Work with computer operations to quickly resolve incidents
- Support and participate in Disaster Recovery exercises and provide on call support
- Perform problem analysis and resolution
- Ensure availability and performance objectives, as required by customers and management are maintained for operating systems and for system software components
- Provide informal project management for complex projects, provide training to clients and colleagues, assist the Operations Engineering zSeries leaders in reviewing software requirements and establishing technical direction and business strategy for the department
What you will need to have:
- 6+ years of experience with the application of z/OS communications protocols
- 6+ years of experience with communication monitoring tools
- 6+ years of experience with security interfaces and encryption methodologies
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education, military, and work experience
What would be great to have:
- Strong understanding of transmission methods and software
- Experience in the financial services industry or other highly regulated industries
