Capability Life Cycle Manager (CLCM)

The CLCM is integrated into the System Program Office (SPO) and contracted to deliver through-life asset management of Products being supported (PBS). The CLCM performs asset, sustainment and engineering functions to optimise availability and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and minimise risk through life of the PBS. The CLCM works collaboratively via the SPO with Regional Maintenance Centre’s (RMC) to plan maintenance activities and installation of capability upgrades. The CLCM works collaboratively via the SPO with the Design Services Contract (DSC) to plan and execute engineering changes and services. The CLCM delivers functions against the contract scope across the Asset Class Enterprise to support Defence Maritime Capability.

The Opportunity:

KBR is seeking a Junior Naval Architect to work within our dynamic CLCM team in support of the Royal Australian Navy’s fleet of Amphibious Combat and Sealift ships.

Under the guidance of the Senior Naval Architect, you will contribute to the delivery of engineering deliverables and services with focus on technical matters including but not limited to structures, hull, hydrodynamics and stability on the products being supported.

This role is based out of Garden Island, Sydney.

Responsibilities:

  • Under supervision deliver Naval Architecture expertise and technical advice, in support of the Engineering activities required of the CLCM. 
  • Under supervision, autonomously deliver engineering outputs to planned schedule. 
  • Deliver engineering activities to ensure compliance with approved policy, plans and processes. Conduct work to the requirements of the Engineering Management Plan. 
  • Develop tasking statements for design tasks to be executed in accordance with the planned schedule. 
  • Work within a multidisciplinary team to develop design solutions and requirements in the context of Engineering Change Management, Configuration management, Systems Safety and Certification. 
  • Work within and to the requirements of Navy Seaworthiness framework and the ACSSPO Authorised Engineering Organisation (AEO). 
  • Verify new Request for Problem Resolution (RPR) against the approved Requirements baseline, Certification Basis and Safety Case Report on the PBS. 
  • Manage Request for Variations (RFV) assigned prior to expiry date to Return to Standard (RTS), Make Permanent or cancellation. 
  • Formulate solutions to problems by working collaboratively with various internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Under general supervision, independently evaluate, select and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, calculations and criteria, using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications. 
  • Under supervision, perform work which involves conventional engineering practice and assessment but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, systems integration, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements. 

As the ideal candidate you will bring:

Essential: 

  • Bachelor of Engineering, or equivalent, qualification in a recognised Engineering related discipline; 
  • Hold, or be eligible for, membership of a recognised professional body and registration as Chartered Engineering; 
  • A minimum of 2 years related experience in Naval Architecture. 
  • Must be eligible for ITAR clearance of relevant ship systems.

Desirable: 

  • Experience with Requirements Development, Design Review and Acceptance within a regulated technical framework, example Department of Defence. 
  • Experience in marine design or maintenance

All candidates will be required to hold and maintain an active Baseline Defence Security Clearance. Only candidates holding a Baseline Clearance or above should apply.
