About the Role
The Engineering Manager, CNC & Additive Manufacturing Training, is responsible for leading and optimizing all aspects of the CNC and Additive Manufacturing instructional programs within the Accelerated Training in Defense Manufacturing (ATDM) initiative. This role ensures the successful delivery of high-quality, industry-aligned training that prepares students for immediate entry into defense manufacturing careers.
The Engineering Manager provides leadership in curriculum development, technical instruction, lab operations, and instructional team management. The position requires a strong foundation in manufacturing engineering and technical training, with a focus on maintaining equipment readiness, instructional consistency, and student performance outcomes. The Engineering Manager works cross-functionally with other training leads to align instructional content, meet workforce development goals, and support continuous improvement across ATDM training tracks.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage, and support CNC and Additive Manufacturing instructors and lab technicians.
- Oversee the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of training curriculum in alignment with industry-recognized standards (e.g., NIMS, MSSC) and DoD workforce requirements.
- Ensure lab facilities, equipment, simulators, and instructional tools are maintained in optimal working condition and support high-fidelity, hands-on learning experiences.
- Develop and implement instructional best practices, ensuring consistent quality and alignment across all shifts and instructional staff.
- Provide subject matter expertise in manufacturing processes, engineering concepts, and safety practices relevant to CNC and additive technologies.
- Monitor student performance, assess training effectiveness, and implement data-driven improvements based on outcomes and industry feedback.
- Promote a safe and professional lab environment; ensure compliance with all safety and quality protocols.
- Coach and mentor instructors on technical content delivery, classroom management, and student engagement.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support multi-disciplinary projects, including instructional integration across the ATDM program’s Lines of Effort.
- Contribute to workforce development strategies, student throughput planning, and operational scaling efforts.

We are looking for staff to work onsite in Danville, VA.
Qualifications
The Ideal Candidate
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferred), Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field. A combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a technical training, manufacturing engineering, or instructional leadership role.
- Demonstrated experience in CNC machining and/or additive manufacturing environments.
- Strong organizational, project management, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with industrial safety standards and lab operations.
- Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or related continuous improvement methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Manufacturing experience in a production or training setting.
- Experience working in or supporting defense-related manufacturing environments.
- Understanding of Department of Defense workforce readiness standards or related workforce development frameworks.
- Instructional or curriculum development experience in a technical education setting.
Essential Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to operate and manipulate a keyboard.
- Must be able to move from building to building, with limited travel.
- Light physical work may be required.
- Some travel may be required.
