What does a successful Payroll Tax Specialist do?
A Payroll Tax Specialist at Fiserv ensures payroll tax accuracy and maintains compliance with tax regulations for both USA and Canadian payrolls. They maintain strong internal and external client relationships by addressing questions and escalations with accuracy, a sense of urgency, and professionalism. They demonstrate strong independent problem-solving skills and contribute to the overall efficiency and compliance of the payroll processes.
What you will do:
- Manage federal and multi-state payroll tax compliance in partnership with our Payroll Tax Vendor.
- Research and resolve tax notices in cooperation with our tax vendor and communicate with agencies, clients, and internal stakeholders.
- Perform daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual tax reconciliation to ensure compliance.
- Conduct regular tax research to stay ahead of state and federal tax changes and provide training to payroll specialists.
- Monitor and recommend improvements to company processes for increased speed, accuracy, and efficiency.
- Ensure proper tax setups and corrections in our Human Capital Management system to avoid errors in W2s and negative wages.
- Process equity transactions in partnership with the Compensation team and perform auditing and reconciliation.
- Provide payroll support as needed.
What you will need to have:
- Experience in high-volume full-cycle in-house multi-state payroll processing and payroll tax
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations as well as Canadian Provincial regulations
- 4+ year of an equivalent combination of educational, work and/or military experience
What would be great to have:
- Bachelor’s degree
- Canadian Provincial tax regulations experience
- Experience with OneSource Virtual or other 3rd party payroll tax providers
- Workday experience
- Certified Payroll Professional Certification
