Position Summary
The Senior Director – Commissioning and Measurement & Verification (M&V) is a pivotal leadership role within the Infrastructure Solutions group, responsible for architecting and scaling a comprehensive commissioning program. This strategic leader will spearhead the development of advanced commissioning and M&V processes, tools, and standards, while recruiting, mentoring, and managing a high-performing team of engineers. The Senior Director will ensure that all energy conservation measures (ECMs) and project installations consistently meet and exceed performance expectations.
This role is instrumental in driving project quality, client satisfaction, and long-term performance across a diverse portfolio of energy projects, including HVAC upgrades, renewable energy systems, lighting retrofits, and building automation systems.

Financial and Operational Scope
Reporting to the Vice President – Technical Development and PMO, the Senior Director serves as the primary liaison for internal stakeholders nationwide, fostering cross-functional collaboration and alignment. The Senior Director is accountable for a portfolio of sales pursuits, solution development opportunities, installation projects, and service contracts, with a focus on on-time delivery, accuracy, margin achievement, financial forecasting, and optimal staff utilization.
Key Responsibilities
· Strategic Leadership: Lead and manage direct reports, including conducting performance reviews, salary planning, training, and career development.
· Commissioning Oversight: Oversee all commissioning activities from project development through post-installation M&V.
· Process Development: Develop and maintain standardized commissioning plans, functional performance tests, and documentation aligned with ASHRAE, ACG, and BCxA standards.
· Performance Assurance: Ensure operational ECMs achieve guaranteed energy savings and performance targets.
· Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with project development, design, construction, and M&V teams across the project lifecycle.
· Technical Expertise: Perform field inspections, witness testing, and resolve technical issues.
· Quality Assurance: Review project documentation to ensure commissionability.
· Client Interface: Serve as the primary commissioning interface for clients, subcontractors, and third-party verifiers.
· Scope and Budget Management: Support the development of commissioning scopes, budgets, and schedules.
· Continuous Improvement: Drive continuous improvement initiatives for processes, tools, and technology upgrades.
· Compliance: Maintain compliance with codes, regulations, and energy performance contracts.
· Training and Development: Provide training to internal teams and clients on building operations and maintenance.
Process Leadership
· Continuous Improvement: Champion continuous improvement by reviewing and updating processes and templates.
· Policy Adherence: Ensure adherence to safety, HR, and travel & expense policies.
· Data Integrity: Manage and maintain the integrity of reporting documents and internal databases.
· Innovation: Support pilot programs and new initiative development by operationalizing standards.
Operational Leadership
· M&V Planning: Develop and implement Measurement & Verification plans for ESPC projects, including savings analysis and risk assessment.
· Operational Direction: Provide direction for day-to-day operational issues across the portfolio.
· Financial Analysis: Lead operational and financial analysis to drive improvements in utilization, cost management, forecasting, and risk identification.
· Resource Allocation: Assign project workloads based on staffing capacity, timing, and skill alignment.
· Data Management: Actively utilize and manage data quality in online account management tools (e.g., Quickbase).
· Leadership Engagement: Participate in leadership meetings and conduct regular portfolio reviews.
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
· 10+ years of experience in building commissioning or energy services, with 5+ years in a leadership role.
· Proven experience in building or expanding a commissioning team.
· Strong knowledge of MEP and control systems.
· Demonstrated success with energy retrofit and performance contracting projects.
· Proficient in MS Windows, Excel, Outlook, and document control platforms.
· Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
· U.S. citizen or ability to access secure customer sites.
· Ability to travel up to 25%.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with energy modeling, IPMVP M&V protocols, and energy auditing.
· Familiarity with renewable energy systems (solar PV, thermal storage).
· Experience managing commissioning budgets and project financials.
· Knowledge of controls design and HVAC troubleshooting.
· Professional Engineer (PE) license strongly preferred; commissioning certifications (CCP, BCxP, CxA) preferred.
· Related certifications preferred (CEM, CMVP).
· Strong account management, customer retention, and dispute resolution skills.
· Program management and process improvement experience a plus.
