About your role:
The Senior System Programmer is responsible for the installation, planning, design, management, configuration, implementation, of z/OS and z/OS based ISV software tools. This position is responsible for supporting existing z/OS systems while ensuring adherence to established standards and procedures; assists Operation and Development teams in problem determination and resolution; closely works with other teams in defining and implementing technical solutions to solve business needs and continuously seek operational and business improvements.
What you’ll do:
- Install, maintain, and customize operating systems and 3rd party ISV system software.
- Prepares and installs system software including OS and 3rd party packages by following vendor and location-specific installation procedures.
- Work with senior team members to perform problem determination and resolution, capture and transmit system dumps, closely work with vendor’s technical support, apply fixes and patches, coordinate testing and implementation of fixes and new versions, and work with other mainframe-based or midrange-based technical teams on production roll-out.
- Work with internal customers to clarify technical requests, testing and validation, and project support needs.
- Work with capacity and performance teams in proactively addressing potential performance issues impacting service levels.
- Work with computer operations to quickly resolve incidents and automate operational processes such as IPLs, Cold Loads, and dump processing.
- Provide informal project management for complex projects. Provide training to clients and colleagues. Assist the Operations Engineering zSeries leaders in reviewing software requirements and establishing technical direction and business strategy for the department.
- Support mainframe hardware upgrades to the latest technology.
Experience you’ll need to have:
- 7+ years' experience with installing ISV software from vendors such as Broadcom, BMC, Precisely, etc.
- 6+ years of experience with JCL, UNIX Shell, IBM system utilities, zSeries, z/OS and MVS.
- 6+ years of experience with software installation and customization.
- 5+ years of experience with system performance, capacity planning and disaster recovery.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education, military, and work experience.
Experience that would be great to have:
- Knowledge of key subsystems such as DB2, CICS, MQ, HSM, DASD and Tape devices, Catalogs, Coupling Facilities, and Sysplexes.
- Relevant certifications in mainframe technologies and performance management.
- In-depth knowledge of mainframe architecture, operating systems (e.g., IBM z/OS), and job control languages (e.g., JCL)
