Overview
As a Lead Grounds Technician with ABM, you will oversee the maintenance and enhancement of the campus landscape and outdoor environments. You’ll lead a team of groundskeepers to ensure that all exterior areas reflect the high standards of SpaceX’s mission-driven culture. This role requires hands-on expertise, leadership, and a proactive approach to site aesthetics, safety, and sustainability.
Responsibilities - Supervise and coordinate daily activities of the grounds crew, ensuring timely and high-quality execution of landscaping, irrigation, and grounds maintenance tasks.
- Perform and oversee tasks such as mowing, trimming, planting, pruning, fertilizing, and pest control.
- Maintain and troubleshoot irrigation systems, including scheduling, repairs, and water conservation practices.
- Ensure all outdoor areas are clean, safe, and visually appealing, including walkways, parking lots, and green spaces.
- Monitor grounds conditions and recommend improvements or repairs.
- Maintain inventory of landscaping supplies and equipment; coordinate with vendors as needed.
- Train and mentor grounds staff, promoting safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with Facilities, Security, and Environmental Health & Safety teams to support site-wide initiatives and events.
Basic Qualifications - High school diploma or GED.
- 5+ years of experience in grounds maintenance or landscaping, including 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Proficiency with landscaping tools, equipment, and irrigation systems.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Preferred Skills and Experience - Certification in horticulture, landscaping, or irrigation systems.
- Experience with sustainable landscaping practices and native plant care.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to read site plans and landscape blueprints.
- Experience working in a fast-paced, industrial or high-tech environment.
Physical Requirements - Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, or overtime as needed.
