This role is categorized as hybrid . This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Pontiac, MI three times per week, at minimum.
The Role
As an Emissions Laboratory Equipment Integration Engineer within GM’s Global Laboratory Systems Engineering team, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of emissions testing. You’ll support certification, diagnostic, and development testing for gasoline, diesel, and hybrid powertrains at GM’s consolidated labs in Pontiac, MI. This role blends engineering expertise with cross-functional collaboration to deliver high-value, technologically advanced test solutions that meet regulatory standards and drive innovation.
What You'll Do
You’ll be responsible for the end-to-end integration of emissions testing systems, including:

System Design & Integration : Develop and implement systems that integrate emissions testing equipment into engine testing facilities.

Equipment Selection & Procurement : Identify, evaluate, and procure emissions testing equipment aligned with project and regulatory requirements.

Calibration & Validation : Support calibration methods and conduct validation testing to ensure system accuracy and reliability.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting : Develop maintenance procedures and resolve equipment issues to minimize downtime.

Data Acquisition Integration : Assist in integrating data systems to ensure accurate and efficient test data collection and analysis.

Compliance & Documentation : Ensure systems meet CARB and EPA standards (e.g., 40 CFR parts 1036/1037, 1065/1066) and support documentation efforts.

Training & Support : Train lab staff on equipment operation and provide technical guidance during testing.

Continuous Improvement : Identify opportunities to enhance testing procedures and stay current with emerging technologies.
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

Demonstrated experience in test systems engineering, with a focus on integrating complex laboratory equipment and supporting infrastructure.

Working knowledge of data acquisition systems and test automation platforms.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues effectively.

Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with a track record of working across multidisciplinary teams.

High attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality and compliance in testing environments.

Proven ability to manage and deliver on project timelines, quality standards, and cost objectives.
What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

Hands-on experience with equipment installations, lab rearrangements, and facility upgrades.

Direct experience with emissions lab integration and related testing systems.

In-depth knowledge of emissions testing regulations, particularly 40 CFR parts 1036/1037 and 1065/1066.

Foundational understanding of CARB and EPA regulatory frameworks.

Experience collaborating within cross-functional and multidisciplinary teams.

Exposure to innovative test facility development, including system design, integration, and commissioning.
