Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Orion, MI on a full-time basis.
The Role:
The RESS Laser Weld Engineer will be assigned to the battery department
inside the plant and will be responsible for supporting the implementation of
battery weld process equipment throughout launch and ongoing operations.
This individual must have the ability to collaborate with all shop floor personnel,
work with little direction, and have problem resolution skills. Additionally, you
must be willing to support the implementation process of a GPS product inside a
vehicle assembly plant.
What You'll Do:
- Promotes, educates, communicates and follows up on safety initiatives
- Must be willing to rotate shifts & communicate status to following shifts
- Support Red/Yellow/Green tag process for equipment installation with execution counterparts
- Participate in PFMEA, SFMEA, PCP, and G-Risk meetings
- Support equipment debug process with ME/Execution counterparts
- Update area of responsibility and participate in the Launch wall meetings
- Works with operations to identify and develop the Battery training skilled operators and ensure its implemented
- Apply production knowledge to analyze major design, tooling and specification for SPQRC issues
- Supports GMS activities and implementation
- Lead TIP throughout battery assembly area
Required Qualifications:
- 3+ years working in a manufacturing environment
- Engineering degree from ABET-accredited university OR equivalent experience
- Ability to travel 25% of the time (Domestic and International)
- Deep technical knowledge and ability in process engineering disciplines
- Ability to work weekends and overtime on an as needed basis
- Ability to rotate shifts as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Product Launches (automotive preferred)
- Master's Degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or similar
