Work Arrangement
Hybrid - The successful candidate is expected to report to the designated work location a minimum of three days per week or other frequency dictated by business needs. The primary work location is Warren, MI.
The Role
As a Discrete Event Simulation (DES) Manager , you will lead a team of simulation data scientists and engineers in designing, implementing, and delivering complex system-of-systems simulation models. You’ll play a strategic role in shaping operational processes and influencing business decisions through data-driven insights. This role requires deep technical expertise in simulation modeling, leadership in simulation science, and the ability to translate complex systems into actionable solutions using tools like FlexSim, Emulate3D, Simul8, or similar.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and manage a team of DES professionals, fostering technical excellence and mentoring simulation talent.
- Design and deliver high-fidelity discrete event simulation models for complex operational systems and process flows.
- Establish best practices in simulation modeling, validation, and documentation across the organization.
- Solve intrinsically difficult simulation problems involving ambiguous requirements, undefined structures, or high business impact.
- Coordinate simulation efforts across internal teams and external vendors, including equipment specification, control logic, and layout optimization.
- Influence strategic decisions by providing simulation-based insights and performance metrics.
- Write technical white papers and documentation that clearly communicate modeling approach, assumptions, outcomes, and recommendations.
- Develop simulation algorithms and tools using Python or other object-oriented programming languages.
- Lead technical reviews, probe assumptions, and foster shared understanding across simulation and engineering disciplines.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- 5+ years of experience in discrete event simulation, with at least 1 year in a leadership or management role.
- Proficiency in simulation software such as FlexSim , Emulate3D , Simul8 , or equivalent platforms.
- Proficiency in developing simulation logic, control algorithms, and performance models for manufacturing, logistics, or service systems.
- Experience applying statistical modeling , queueing theory , and stochastic processes to real-world systems.
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related quantitative field or equivalent experience.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience integrating DES models with real-time data sources , digital twins , or IoT platforms .
- Familiarity with optimization techniques (e.g., linear programming, genetic algorithms) to enhance simulation outcomes.
- Background in material flow modeling , warehouse automation , or production line balancing .
- Experience with cloud-based simulation environments or distributed computing for large-scale model execution.
- Demonstrated success in influencing business strategy through simulation-driven insights and scenario planning.
- Strong programming skills in Python , C++ , or other object-oriented languages for simulation scripting and data analysis.
