Johnson Controls is hiring! The Technical Design Lead manages and provides design support to the engineering, test lab and design automation departments by assuming full design responsibility for assigned projects. For the right candidate, this role has an opportunity to be remote.
Responsibilities and Duties: The position will require independent research to resolve problems with engineering, test lab, marketing, manufacturing and vendors.
- Proficient knowledge of Creo 3D design software. Windchill PLM preferred.
- Collaborate with design standardization departments to improve design processes. Look for automation opportunities and provide support in the development of the automation programs.
- Utilize project management skills needed to schedule work for team members on projects for specific product lines.
- Collaborate with engineering to provide the optimum design solutions for all phases of design (prototypes, product pilot and standard product models).
- Manages layouts of large assemblies that require a high degree of precision and expertise from engineering data in one or more of the following areas
- Mechanical:
- Pressure vessel code.
- Heavy equipment manufacturing.
- Weldments.
- Sheet metal and plate fabrication.
- Piping
- Prepares and manages change orders after investigating change requests, lab testing, manufacturing problems and proposes redesigns to improve performance or reduce costs.
- Ensure that the design work of others meets the quality standards and requirements of the project.
- Proficient knowledge of manufacturing processes (Welding, Bending, Piping, Brazing, Assembling etc).
- Demonstrates proficient knowledge of design procedures such as retrieving and applying information from engineering standards and schematics, purchasing and manufacturing specifications for preparation, release and revision of drawings and Bills of Material.
- Demonstrates knowledge of SAP or other Material Resource Planning software to investigate existing material and BOMs.
- Exercises leadership by sharing technical and practical knowledge with all team membe6rs.

- Bachelor’s Degree is required with 2 years’ experience in a related field.
- Proficiency in Project Management, Microsoft Excel, Word and Powerpoint
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $67,000 - $91,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, location and alignment with market data.)
