You'll be responsible for leading the modernization of our Property & Casualty data ecosystem. You'll drive the design and implementation of a modern data lakehouse architecture, while ensuring the continued support, stability and accuracy of the current legacy data warehouse and reporting platforms during a multi-year transformation. You'll interface closely with other Technology leaders to provide overall strategic and thought leadership for the Property Casualty business with strong collaboration across P&C Business Performance Office, Pricing Actuaries, Reserving Actuaries, Controllership, and Product Leaders across Personal Lines, Agribusiness, Commercial Lines, and Excess & Surplus and Specialty.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Responsible for the development and execution of the vision for a modern P&C data platform by leading the buildout of a scalable, secure, and efficient Data Lakehouse environment to support analytics, AI/ML, and business intelligence needs with an initial focus on Financial KPIs, Reserving and Pricing.
Manages legacy data infrastructure through its full lifecycle; ensuring stability, optimizing performance, and orchestrating an orderly retirement as capabilities are transitioned to the new platform.
Engages collaboratively with key partners to align data capabilities to business priorities, including P&C Business Performance Office for establishing data priorities across P&C group, Pricing and Reserving Actuarial teams to support modeling, segmentation, and rate-making with high-quality data assets, Controllership and Finance to enable reliable, timely, and reconcilable financial and statutory reporting, and Product and Business Leaders to ensure data-driven insights are embedded into decision-making for underwriting, risk, and customer experience and the creation of new data driven products (e.g. Telematics, Smart Home).
Partners with P&C Business Performance Office Advance data governance, stewardship, and quality frameworks in coordination with Nationwide’s enterprise data policies and regulatory compliance.
Evaluates, designs, and implements emerging/secure technologies in cloud platforms, real-time data streaming, metadata management, and analytics that support P&C strategies and reduce technical debt.
Responsible for project delivery, build portfolio and run budget supporting the P&C data Platform transformation.
Partners with Procurement and leaders to manage third party relationships and deliver capabilities in a cost-effective, secure, and scalable manner.
Builds and scales high-performing engineering teams that operate with agile and DevSecOps principles, focusing on continuous integration, deployment automation, and platform resilience; including performance management, talent acquisition, skill development, and associate engagement for the team.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships: Reports to SVP, Chief Technology Officer. Leads a team of 5-6 or more technology professionals with approximately 80-100 indirect reports.
Typical Skills and Experience:
Education: Undergraduate studies in Data or Computer Science. Advanced degree preferred.
Licensing Requirement: Data or Computer Science certifications a plus.
Experience: Ten to fifteen years of experience in progressive in data engineering, infrastructure and transformation, preferably in an insurance environment. Five or more years of people leadership. Successful candidates will have experience delivering data products and services in a federated or domain-driven architecture model, Lakehouse architecture implementations, managing legacy warehouse environments, and proficiency with modern data tools and platforms. Success in modernizing legacy data systems while maintaining operational excellence, associate engagement and customer satisfaction.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Demonstrated strong leadership ability to influence and gain alignment on a complex data strategies into actionable roadmaps. Proven ability to oversee short-term delivery with long-term transformation, solutions effectively at all levels with a strong understanding of software engineering practices, including product-centric and agile transformation. Proactively manages vendor relationships and identifies ways to mitigate risk.
