Responsible for leading communication strategy for a specific line of business or industry and creating internal/external communications plans and programs for stakeholders within the firm specifically to build RSM’s market position externally and drive internal client-centric behaviors, organizational alignment (across various business units, industry, global), technical knowledge and growth. The communications director will be responsible for building strong relationships and developing multi-channel, compelling strategies, tactics and deliverables to inform, engage and inspire stakeholders with programs in collaboration with their assigned CMG team and communicators leading other business units, industry and geographic focus areas to create strategies, synergies and repeatable models.
This position will be located in a major metropolitan market where RSM has an office. The role will be expected to be in the office building relationships with teammates, owners and employees on a regular basis to be determined with their career advisor.
Essential Duties:
Serve as the communication leader and SME for the line of business.
- Participate in strategy meetings with line of business, service line and capability leaders as appropriate
- Develop communications strategies, tactics and deliverables in alignment with RSM’s vision, purpose, values and strategies, including directly supporting leader communications
- Ensure connectivity and alignment with enterprise, other business units, industry and global strategies and initiatives
Collaborate with CMG leaders, CMG teams, operational teams and additional stakeholders to effectively create and execute communications to support the firm’s line of business.
- Collaborate with line of business CMG leader and teammates to ensure that a consistent strategy is built and delivered across communications, marketing and growth
- Collaborate as a member of the communications leadership team and with communicators leading other business units, industry and geographic focus areas to create strategies, synergies and repeatable models
- Collaborate with public relations, thought leadership, and outside agency, as needed, to develop media relations and external communications strategies for the line of business, assist with preparation of spokespeople, build relationships with media and coordinate interviews. Seek to actively position RSM as a leading firm through the media.
- Collaborate with thought leadership team to develop compelling external content for line of business, including whitepapers, byline articles and other thought leadership.
- Collaborate with senior executives and counterparts on the public relations, thought leadership, marketing teams and in other functions to ensure that communications are planned, sequenced and integrated across the enterprise.
- Work with the RSM International Executive Office as needed to enhance awareness of U.S. line of business capabilities across the network and alignment with the network around key business objectives and initiatives.
Develop compelling communication and content strategies that inform, engage and inspire action.
- Write and edit communications for internal and external audiences in creative ways that inform, engage and inspire appropriate behaviors and actions, including developing tools and templates to be used in the field with a focus on integrating messaging across various programs and channels, whenever possible.
- Coordinate the logistics of line of business communication campaigns to ensure that all communication and materials are delivered on time and through the proper channels.
- Publish and deliver content through the firm's internal and external communication platforms, including RSM Power, webcasts, intranet, social media and website.
- Implement process to monitor flow and quality of content, and measure engagement in lines of business content via RSM Power
- Ensure ongoing development and usage of templates, toolkits and meetings in a box to drive consistent messaging throughout industry communities
- Develop standards and processes for gathering and developing content that reinforces the firm’s vision, purpose, strategy, values/5C’s through line of business communities
- Monitor and evaluate program for continuous improvement.
- Actively work with the communications leader and the line of business CMG leader and participate in requisite team meetings to provide leadership, ideas and insights to continually improve communication processes, tools and results.
- Actively drive collaboration and connectivity across all lines of business, industries and geographies to drive repeatable models, break down silos and build relationships with team members and key stakeholders.
- Actively mentor and develop advisees and other team members to evolve as professionals and build successful careers.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism or Marketing Communications is required
- Masters in Integrated Marketing Communications or MBA is preferred.
TECHNICAL/SOFT SKILLS
- Exceptional writing and editing skills (required)
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint (required)
- Firstup or equivalent (required)
- SharePoint and Yammer (required)
- 10 years of experience managing communications
EXPERIENCE
- 15+ years of corporate communications experience; demonstrated experience developing communications plans and leading teams across a complex suite of service offerings
LEADERSHIP SKILLS
- Proven experience managing communications agency resources and direct reports (required)
- Ability to train, counsel, coach and advise executives and peers in message development and delivery best practices (required)
- Proven ability to collaborate and work effectively in a highly matrixed environment

At RSM, an employee’s pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
Compensation Range: $126,500 - $223,900
Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
