Who we’re looking for
The Research Strategic Office of Toyota Research Institute of North America (TRINA) is seeking a passionate and highly motivated Strategic Research Specialist.
This role is crucial in shaping and supporting our research institute by integrating research strategies, developing and guiding our research direction and roadmaps, ensuring alignment with TMC/NA needs, and fostering impactful partnerships with external collaborators.
You will play a pivotal role in shaping our research initiatives to drive innovation and support the long-term strategic goals of TRINA.
What you'll be doing
Develop Strategic Research Direction
Foster Strategic Partnerships
Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with top-tier universities, leading technology companies, and research consortia.
Identify and pursue new partnership opportunities to enhance the organization’s research capabilities and reputation.
New Theme Creation
Promote Intellectual Property Solutions
Advocate for the development and promotion of IP solutions that support research initiatives and enhance competitive advantage.
Collaborate with legal and business teams to ensure effective IP management and commercialization strategies.
Support Technology Incubation
Promote technology incubation initiatives that foster innovation and accelerate the development of new technologies.
Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure the successful execution of incubation projects.
Stakeholder Engagement and Communication
Act as a liaison between research teams and key internal stakeholders, including resource planning and technology development teams.
Prepare and deliver strategic updates, reports, and proposals to leadership, ensuring effective communication across all levels of the organization.
What you bring
Master’s degree in a scientific, engineering, AI-related, or strategic management field is required.
3 or more years’ experience in strategic planning, new research theme creation and partnerships management.
Strong understanding of emerging technology and their potential in research and development.
MS Office
Familiarity with data analytics, machine learning tools, or AI-driven decision support systems is preferred. Branch question asking for specific tools
Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
Experience in managing complex projects (based on collaborators, strategy, number of topics) and fostering cross-functional collaboration.
Deep understanding of research ecosystems, innovation trends, and stakeholder engagement.
Added bonus if you have
Experience with AI-powered research tools, predictive modeling, or automated portfolio analysis.
Power BI, Python
Working knowledge of research management software or platforms.
Familiarity with technology scouting, benchmarking, and innovation intelligence platforms.
Experience in science policy, research funding ecosystems, or governmental R&D strategy.
Capability in storytelling and visual communication for executive-level presentations and strategic reports.
Knowledge of IP strategy, technology transfer, or early-stage commercialization processes.
Exposure to agile methodologies or lean innovation practices in R&D environments.
Presentations, publications, credits, research (be prepared to discuss in interviews)
