Director, Benefits Strategy & Operations

Responsibilities
· Strategy & Governance: Set the multi-year benefits roadmap; frame options and recommendations for leadership/benefits governance; define KPIs (cost trend, quality, access, equity) and hold vendors to them.
- Plan Design & Health Outcomes: Lead annual plan design for medical, pharmacy/behavioral health, dental, vision, life/disability; drive navigation, virtual care, centers of excellence, and clinical programs to measurably improve outcomes and total cost.
- Pharmacy (PBM) & Specialty Rx: Own PBM strategy (formulary, network, pricing, rebates), biosimilars/specialty initiatives, and member affordability; publish dashboards and savings impact.
- Compliance Ownership: Ensure ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA/ADA compliance; lead MHPAEA NQTL comparative analyses; steward Transparency in Coverage (MRFs/price tool) and No Surprises Act alignment; oversee filings (e.g., 5500/SAR) and audits.
- Open Enrollment & Communications: Own OE strategy/timeline and inclusive, plain-language communications with decision support tools; measure comprehension and plan selection quality.
- Vendor Management: Lead RFPs, contracts, SLAs/guarantees, and business reviews for all H&W vendors and point solutions; consolidate where it improves experience and total cost; publish scorecards and deliver year-over-year savings and quality gains.
- M&A Integration: Lead diligence, cost modeling, harmonization, transition plans, and change communications for acquisitions/divestitures.
- Data, Reporting & Analytics: Establish dashboards on trend, pharmacy, absence, vendor SLAs, and experience; translate insights into actionable recommendations for leadership.
- Budget & Forecasting: Manage the $75M+ benefits budget; forecast plan changes; partner with benefits broker on scenario modeling and performance reviews.
- Leaves & Accommodations: Oversee FMLA, state/PFML, ADA; integrate with disability and timekeeping; ensure compliant, empathetic case handling and return-to-work programs.
- People Leadership & Operations: Lead, coach, and develop the benefits team; ensure accurate eligibility, file feeds, deductions, controls, and continuous improvement across HRIS/BenAdmin.
Qualifications
List minimum requirements for education, experience, and proficiencies
- Bachelor’s degree in HR, Business, or a related field; master’s degree preferred.
- 10+ years progressive U.S. benefits experience with large, multi-state populations; 3+ years leading teams or large cross-functional programs.
- Demonstrated expertise in pharmacy/PBM strategy, specialty Rx management, and enterprise-level vendor negotiations and performance management.
- Deep knowledge of ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA/ADA, MHPAEA NQTL analyses, Transparency in Coverage, and No Surprises Act; experience with filings, audits, and controls.
- Strong analytics and financial modeling skills; proficiency with Excel/BI and HRIS/benefits platforms (e.g., Alight/Workday/UKG/Dayforce).
- Proven success leading Open Enrollment, complex change initiatives, and M&A integrations; executive-ready communication and stakeholder management.
- CEBS or SPHR/PHR preferred.

Benefits and Compensation:
This role will be based out of our New Brighton office. The pay range is $127,600 - $191,800, depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for annual bonus and profit sharing based on company performance in addition to other benefits that support the total well-being of you and your family.
