Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s Data Team is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Data Platform Manager.
The primary responsibility of this role is to lead engineering efforts to build best-in class enterprise Analytics Platform leveraging cutting edge technologies, DevSecOps and principles of Agility & Infrastructure as a code.
Reporting to the Sr Manager, the person in this role will support the Data Engineering, department's objective to build state of the art Data Platforms and develop Data Products in support of various Analytical needs across the organization.
What you’ll be doing
Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Data Platform Engineers and BI developers to design, build, and maintain data ingestion pipelines, data lakes, warehouses, and analytics platforms.
Architect and oversee the implementation of end-to-end data solutions that enable the creation of Data Products and BI insights.
Experienced with Configuration as Code and Platform as Code development.
Collaborate closely with Data Scientists, Analysts, Product Owners, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
Act as a hands-on technical lead, providing coding guidance, code reviews, and architectural direction.
Drive best practices in data engineering, including data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, data quality, and governance.
Ensure the platform is scalable, secure, and optimized for performance on cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP).
Develop strategic roadmaps and Support full life cycle of the applications/platforms with Agile methodologies & ITIL based policies
Establish and enforce platform security standards and practices to safeguard critical data assets
Manage contracts and budgets related to team resources, including personnel and software licenses, ensuring cost-effective utilization.
Stay current with emerging data technologies and cloud services to continuously improve platform capabilities.
Manage project timelines, resource allocation, and cross-team coordination to deliver high-quality data solutions on schedule.
Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous learning within the team
What you bring
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
7+ years of experience in data engineering, software development, or related roles, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial position.
Strong understanding of data technologies including databases (SQL/NoSQL), data lakes, data warehouses, ETL/ELT tools, and BI platforms.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala for data processing and automation.
Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and their data services (e.g., AWS Redshift, Azure Synapse, GCP BigQuery).
Experience with modern data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, or similar technologies.
Experience with BI / Analytics platforms like Alteryx, Dataiku, Google Looker, Microsoft PowerBI or similar.
Experience leading DevSecOps and ML Ops automation using Git Actions, Jenkins, Ansible, Chef, XL Release, and XL Deploy
Experience designing and implementing scalable data architectures and pipelines.
Solid knowledge of data modeling, data governance, and data security best practices.
Proven experience managing contracts and budgets for technical teams and software resources.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to act as a technical lead and solutions architect, balancing hands-on coding with strategic oversight.
Added bonus if you have
Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (Docker, Kubernetes).
Familiarity with real-time data processing frameworks (Kafka, Spark Streaming).
Knowledge of machine learning pipelines and integration with data platforms.
Certifications in cloud platforms or data engineering.
