Job Summary:
Trane in Grand Rapids, MI is hiring for an Equipment Estimator II to join our team. In this role, you will be will be closely interacting with customers, account manager(s), other assigned project managers, technicians and suppliers to ensure timely completion of assigned estimates and project execution. Responsibilities include technical selection and pricing of equipment for each project. Must be able to provide estimating support to the equipment sales team.
What you will do:
- Responsible for reviewing Plans & Specifications and developing cost estimates, ensuring accuracy of quantity, size, configuration, voltage, options, etc. of Trane materials, sub-contractors, non-Trane purchased equipment, labor (start-up, service work, etc.), and other construction-related activities to assist Account Managers in bidding projects.
- Provides knowledge and consultation in the form of developing facility-related solutions for the customer’s problems.
- Determines project needs, constraints, and responsibilities to meet the entire customer’s HVAC system design and installation requirements.
- Develops, evaluates, and discusses possible solutions with Account Manager, Project Manager, Sub-contractor, Supplier, and/or customer.
- Coordinates selection, pricing, and integrates equipment, controls, and services for each project.
- Prepares, finalizes, and reviews preliminary and/or final proposal complete. Prepares equipment submittals and validates equipment selection.
- Assist Account Manager determine proposal price, selling strategy, and develop project fulfillment schedule with project team.
Day to Day
- Assist Sales Application Engineers with information gathering and competitor research to help gain customization business
- Proactively build foundational understanding of Commercial HVAC products - the types of systems and each differs from the other, including the industrial markets using the equipment.
- Continuous improvement in understanding Trane service industries to use that knowledge to develop basic RFQs (quotes) for Commercial Sales office with customizations needs on Trane Commercial Equipment
- Provide research support to Product Management to track competitors' activities, monitoring new product offerings, etc.
- Maintains Trane Creative Solutions Sales Quoting team's pages - adding new products/services, removing discontinued products, answering CSO questions; forwarding questions to Sales Engineering when needed
- Analytics and Reporting: develop and maintain standard analytics on Commercial HVAC competitors. Create and present regular market updates to share with TCS operations as well as Commercial Sales Teams
- Product Development: lead business case and requirements definition for new product development projects
- In-Line Product Management: own updating and maintaining pricing, marketing material, and product offering after launch
What you will bring:
- What you will bring: Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology or business management preferred with minimum of three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in estimating, project management, engineering, HVAC or construction management; or equivalent combination of education and industry related experience.
- Strong communication skills, proactive approach with willingness to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Proven experience prioritizing tasks in order to meet tight deadlines within a high paced environment with attention to detail.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
- Familiarity with the operation of HVAC Systems and/or Temperature Controls preferred.
- Flexibility to work overtime/ weekends, as required.
- Must be able to travel locally on occasion and possess a valid driver’s license for a minimum of 12 months, with no major or frequent traffic violations including, but not limited to:
- DUI, Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless / Careless Driving or multiple smaller infractions or preventable collisions in the previous 3 years.
Preferred:
- 1-2 years commercial HVAC experience or
- 2-3 years mechanical or electrical engineering experience
- Bachelors degree in Engineering preferred
- Driven Self-starter able to work in an environment of change and ambiguity
- Experience with complex equipment ordering
- Fast learner
- Technical background, with experience in sales or engineering preferred
- Strong Excel skills; Microsoft Suite (Office, Word, Powerpoint, Project)
- Experience with SAP, Oracle or other data management platform (view permissions)
Compensation:
Base Pay Range: $55,000-$85,000
Total compensation for this role will include a commission/incentive plan. Disclaimer: This base pay range is based on US national averages. Actual base pay could be a result of seniority, merit, geographic location where the work is performed.
