ROLE DEFINITION:
This position is part of Tangent Energy’s Solar, Energy Storage, and Generator Set business. The primary responsibility of this position is developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Tangent Energy’s monitoring and control systems.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Design and implement SCADA and industrial IoT systems that integrate Tangent AMP software with third-party platforms and field devices, ensuring reliable data acquisition and control.
- Architect secure and scalable network infrastructures for industrial environments, including configuration of switches, routers, and firewalls (Cisco, SEL, Fortinet), with emphasis on segmentation, remote access, and cybersecurity.
- Configure and troubleshoot Remote Terminal Units (RTUs) such as SEL RTAC, and support communication protocols including DNP3, Modbus, IEC 61850, TCP/IP, and UDP.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation including network topology diagrams, panel layouts, electrical schematics, and system configuration guides.
- Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to support device commissioning, diagnostics, and control wiring, ensuring alignment with project specifications standards.
- Apply Python, JavaScript and node.js scripting for automation, asset control, and data parsing across SCADA and IoT systems.
- Implement cybersecurity best practices across all systems, including secure protocol configurations, access control policies, and compliance with standards such as NIST and IEC 62443.
- Coordinate with relay settings engineers to validate communication port settings for protection relays, meters, and other intelligent electronic devices.
- Manage third-party engineering firms to ensure technical accuracy and adherence to design requirements and industry standards.
- Contribute to the development of SCADA design standards and best practices in collaboration with Tangent leadership.
WHAT YOU WILL HAVE:
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
Demonstrated understanding of electrical system design and documentation concepts.
Demonstrated understanding of SCADA and network architecture.
Excellent written communication and interpersonal skills.
Standard Operating Procedures: Knowledge of established standard operating procedures (SOP); ability to design, implement and evaluate standard operating procedures affecting daily and strategic business operations in order to increase operational efficiency.
- Adjusts SOPs according to changes in organizational and industry procedures.
- Tracks deviations from and modifications to existing SOPs in business operations.
- Ensures compliance with industry standards, regulations and policies.
- Assists in establishing a standard operating procedure based on workflow and environment review.
- Reviews the efficiency of standard operating procedures in terms of performance improvement.

TOP CANDIDATES MAY ALSO HAVE:
- Experience with distributed energy resources and associated controls architecture.
- Familiarity with PJM, ISO-NE, MISO, or other grid operators.
- Experience with protection relays, metering devices, and DER controllers.
- Knowledge with VPN tunneling for RTUs and end-to-end cybersecurity standards.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- This position requires the selected candidate to work on-site five days a week in Kennett Square, PA.

Summary Pay Range:
$87,480.00 - $131,280.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
