Position Summary
The Executive Director, Aetna Communications reports to the Head of Communications, Aetna, and is a key leadership position within both the Aetna and CVS Communications teams. The candidate is responsible for serving as the senior counselor to the Aetna business leaders, developing, leading and executing modern, multi-channel campaigns, and cultivating and developing Communications talent. The position will be responsible for issues management and response, competitive due-diligence, local market and community campaigns, and executive and business communications for the Commercial, Medicaid and Medicare businesses. This position will work in close collaboration with the Aetna business leadership and their respective leadership teams, and cross-functional teams to understand and execute against key business and brand priorities.
Major Responsibilities
- Strategic Counsel: Serve as senior communications partner to Heads of Aetna’s Medicaid, Medicare and Commercial business lines, providing internal and external strategic counsel and leading impactful campaigns.
- Narrative Storytelling: Create a cross-business narrative that articulates Aetna’s differentiation in the marketplace and provides appropriate flexibility for business-specific messaging, campaigns and proactive storytelling.
- Local Market: Partnering with CVS and Aetna marketing, corporate giving and community relations teams to craft surround-sound, local market engagement programs in support of Aetna’s objectives in priority markets.
- Industry Events & Response: Proactively identify industry, regulatory and business trends and work with CVS and Aetna’s communications teams to shape responses. Serve as key contact to the CVS External Affairs team, in support of efficient and effective Aetna reactive media response and monitoring.
- Team Leadership: Cultivate talent, role model mindsets & behaviors, and align resources to maximize communications value for the business, brand and culture.
Required Qualifications
The candidate will have a strong executive presence, be a self-starter, and bring a solutions-based mindset to advance cross-enterprise work in a dynamic, transformational environment. This position offers broad exposure to all aspects of the company’s business, with direct and ongoing interaction executive leaders. The candidate will be expected to have the following key attributes:
- 12+ years of communications experience
- Deliver recommendations clearly and persuasively, find common ground when presented with opposing viewpoints, and earn the trust of executive leaders.
- Excellent multi-media communications skills, including ability to draft sophisticated C-suite communications across earned, social and owned channels.
- Ability to oversee multiple complex projects, leveraging agency and in-house resources effectively, to achieve measurable objectives within tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strategic and analytical thinker with superior problem-solving skills and the ability to toggle between strategy and executive seamlessly.
- Exceptional people manager with a personal commitment to continuous mentorship and professional development.

Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$131,500.00 - $303,195.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
