Leidos Engineering has an opportunity for a Lead Electrical Designer within our dynamic EPC Solutions organization. The Lead Designer will play an acitve role in the creation of substation design drawing packages and necessary documents for electric power substations ranging from 12kV to 500kV. You'll be responsible for utilizing accepted practices and standards to ensure that all designs meet the highest level of quality and safety.

Lead Designer Responsibilities will include:
- Create substation outdoor plan drawing
- Develop an arrangement of substation structures, equipment and foundation plan drawings.
- Develop and create section views and other detail drawings of substation structures, equipment
- Develop substation control building equipment, cable tray and lighting plans
- Develop layout of conduit plan and ground grid design and equipment grounding plan.
- Develop bill of materials for major equipment and materials.
- Review and approve vendor equipment drawings
- Create a material order list for substation material requisition.
- Ensure project team efficiently executes project work and delivers high quality work products on schedule.
- Identify, prepare technical documentation, communicate, and resolve project issues with project manager.
- Collaborate with engineers/designers across disciplines and identify/resolve potential design issues to assure a complete/high-quality product.
- Apply all relevant client, national, and state standards when applicable.
- Develop accurate drawing/hour estimates and project approach documents for small, medium, and large size projects.
- Demonstrate and apply technical knowledge and experience to improve efficiency and quality of work product for project team.
- Provide detailed technical write-ups on proposals for small, medium, and large size projects under direction of project manager.
- Demonstrate improved skill set of technical knowledge and experience through efficiency and quality of work product.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to members of project team.
- Perform quality checks for small, medium, and large size projects within the associated discipline of expertise.
- Provide technical support and lead a project team for small, medium, and large size projects within the associated discipline of expertise.
- Interact directly with clients to review and resolve technical project related issues without supervision.
- Identify and resolve project issues by keeping an open line of communication between the internal project team and the client.
- Resource allocation for direct reports and coordination with engineering manager.
- Lead, mentor and grow a diverse team of substation physical designers
Required Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in engineering technology or drafting technology
- Must have a minimum of 6 years of previous substation design and quality control experience for electric utility industry related projects.
- Demonstrated experience with utility power substation design knowledge is required
- Demonstrated experience working with US based electric utility projects is required
- Previous leadership experience in an engineering design setting
- Advanced understanding of design software such as: AutoCAD, & Microstation as well as Word, and Excel to develop project deliverables.
- Demonstrated proficiency with both 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings.
- Ability to work in a team environment with personnel in other disciplines
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills, and attention to detail.
- Candidates local to Houston TX area are highly preferred

Pay Range:
Pay Range $85,150.00 - $153,925.00
