Caterpillar’s Paving Products division is seeking a Design Engineering Specialist to join the EIC (Engine, Installation & Cooling) team. In this role, you will lead the development of Engine Installation & Cooling architecture for both New Product Introduction (NPI) and Continuous Product Improvement (CPI) programs. Your responsibilities will span engine system layout, component design and validation, project management, performance analysis, and cost evaluation. You’ll work in close partnerships with internal stakeholders, external suppliers, and cross-functional development teams, while actively building relationships with global partners.
What You Will Do:
- Drive New Product Introduction (NPI) and New Technology Introduction (NTI) for small and medium engine installations and cooling components/systems including project planning, component design, systems integration, test bed and prototype iron, field follow of pilot machines, and production implementation.
- Collaborate with internal process partners on technical, commercial, and program issues.
- Support and resolution of CPI issues
- Support cost reduction efforts with emphasis on providing high quality designs.
- Identify, assess, and swiftly resolve design and manufacturing challenges to optimize product performance and production efficiency.
- Coordinate verification testing and simulation activities, including FEA/CFD, both locally and with our supply chain partners.
- Interface with suppliers to improve quality while developing effective working relationships.
- Lead and facilitate commonality of EIC designs and processes across the machine platforms.
What You Have (Basic Qualifications):
- Degree requirement: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Ag Engineering or equivalent degree.
- Troubleshooting Technical Problems: Abilities to identify and resolve design and manufacturing challenges, optimizing product performance, serviceability and on-machine testing experience to identify and resolve engineering issues.
- Technical Expertise: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to address design and manufacturing challenges, improve product performance, and conduct on-machine testing.
- Product Testing: Conducted on-machine testing and performed data analysis to validate product performance and ensure design integrity.
- Project Management: Capable of managing design projects through development phases, ensuring timely delivery of engine installations and cooling system designs.
Top Candidates Will Have:
- Progressive experience in the development of EIC systems
- Hands-on experience in product development and machine operation
- Experience with mobile machinery design and operation
- Proven ability to work effectively with global, cross-functional teams, demonstrating strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience in product design for manufacturing, including proficiency with tools such as Creo, Creo Simulate (or similar), and systems modeling software like Cool-1.

- Office Model: This position requires the employee to work a 5-day-a-week schedule in the office.

Summary Pay Range:
$126,000.00 - $189,000.00
