The Air Launched Effectors Department is searching for a full time Mechanical Engineer II to assist a multi-discipline team working on the design, development and/or production support of products and subsystems, for the purpose of giving the U.S. Air Force and our allies an unmatched advantage across every mission phase. From long-range surveillance sensors to command and control, to advanced air and ground effectors, we provide the technology required to keep the air domain secure.
The Mechanical Engineer II will conduct design, integration, testing and/or production support of mechanical-focused hardware using computer-aided design, mechanical analyses, and consistent coordination and communication across teams to ensure success.
What You Will Do:
Design and develop circuit cards, heat sinks, mechanical components, etc.
Perform first-order tolerance analyses
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Electrical, Structures, Thermal, Systems, Integration and Test
Create and maintain detailed engineering drawings and documentation.
Conduct design reviews and provide technical support throughout the product design.
Support testing and validation of designs, including troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.
Contributing to finding solutions to a wide range of technical problems related to the design, manufacture, integration, and production sustainment of various mechanical subsystems, including support in the engineering lab and the factory floor both at RMD and at suppliers.
Supporting first article inspections, work instruction reviews, material dispositions, and root cause investigations to production issues. Decisions are data driven and require preparing technical justification analysis reports and presenting to a variety of Engineering Review Boards.
Performing mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, subassemblies, and end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements.
Interfacing with other engineering disciplines, non-technical disciplines, and suppliers to develop design solutions and resolve technical issues.
The Mech Engr II - PUMA job is in Tucson, AZ and the position is onsite.
Qualifications You Must Have:
Typically requires a Bachelor in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience. In absence of a degree, 6+ years of experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience
Experience in mechanical design and 3D modeling using CAD tools (i.e. CREO)
Qualifications We Prefer:
Knowledgeable in Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ANSI Y14.5
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Able to work in a fast-paced environment aimed at rapid development
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
Experience with hands-on hardware integration and troubleshooting
Prior experience within Defense and/or Aerospace Industry
Advanced degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to work in teams or independently; flexible, motivated and demonstrating initiative
Mechanical aptitude to provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of complex scope and complexity
Ability to travel to government and other facilities in support of program activities

The salary range for this role is 66,000 USD - 130,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
